Many activities took place Feb 3rd—7th 2020. Students enjoyed a lively talk given by Bridget Sheerin, Glasnevin Trust on Women in History. Students were amazed by the role of women and the influence they have had and Bridget answered many questions at the end of the talk. Students want to visit Glasnevin Trust to learn more. Bridget taught History & Geography in this school and was delighted to visit is and meet with students & teachers.

The Holocaust Narrative struck a chord with senior students as they heard a personal story from a speaker from The Holocaust

The Transition Year programme this year has been very memorable. Not only did we get to experience new areas of interest, but we also developed many of our skills, accepted responsibility for our own learning, explored new subjects and were introduced to the world of adult work. We carried out Work Experience on Thursdays and block weeks and even took part in a Career Ready programme, which gave us the opportunity to go to Lon-don.

We developed many personal qualities such as organization, application, and initiative by taking interviews for different programmes, organizing mock elections, a Christmas Concert and a TY Showcase, opening the School Bank and creating our own projects for the school’s Sci-Fest..

We visited many interesting places, such as Dublin Airport, Mercy Inter-national Centre and the Buddhist Centre, but we also had a lot of fun on trips to Tanagh, the Laughter’s Lounge, the Ploughing Championships, Jump Zone, Ice Skating and the Bord Gais, where we watched the Sound of Music. We found it fun to engage with other students at the iWish con-ference, BT Young Scientist and the Emmanuels.

In school, we had some short courses like CPR, GAA Coaching & Refer-eeing, Driver’s Education and Mindfulness.

We enjoyed having guest speakers come over from Diageo, Conradh na Gaeilge, the Holocaust Educational Trust and a talk from the Innovative Coach.

We took part in Market Day, celebrated International Women's Day, went to cook in St Pauls, do woodwork in St Aidans and do some sport in the Ballymun Gym.

Thank you to all the teachers who made this an amazing year ! Mihaela Borta, TY Class May 2020

Sports has always played a big part in my life so going into first year

in Mercy Beaumont I was hoping there would be teams for me to

play on. From early on teachers encouraged myself and others to

get involved in school activities. I didn’t need encouragement and

was happy to play for the seniors soccer team when I was still in

first year ! I remember we reached the semi finals of a senior cup

and made the finals of a first year tournament. It was the furthest

the school had ever got in any competition. Unfortunately after that

the soccer team sort of disbanded and it wasn’t until my final year in

school when with the help of students and a few teachers we got the

soccer team up and running again. During my time in Mercy Beau-

mont I also enjoyed playing on the Gaelic football team where we

had some great victories. Playing sports in school gave us the oppor-

tunity to meet other people from different year groups and bond

with them in order to work as a team. I will miss the bus journeys to

matches and chatting to teachers about stuff other than the subjects

they teach. In sixth year when the soccer team was formed we got

on really well not losing one match but unfortunately our season

was interrupted by the shutting of all schools. I would love to return

to the school one day to watch the sports teams play as it is

when some of the best memories of school are

made.

Reflecting on my year in TY

Gaelic Football Team

This year for football we had a really good year. Starting off with the great training sessions every Monday after school in which the new first years made great additions to the team. In training we would work on ball work and passing. We did drills such as the three man weave and possession games. Then at the start of the school year we were kindly gifted Lidl jerseys for our school team along with some other equipment that was greatly put to use. They were nice, red and yellow in which we were proud to wear. We trained very hard and started to play football games. We went to matches and played to the best of our ability. Then we got all the way to the semi-finals and un-fortunately after a tough battle we lost. Overall we had a great year and a great laugh along with many friendships. Of course none of this would've been possible if it wasn't for Ms Sweeney and Ms Mc Evoy who stayed back after school to train us, brought us to matches and coached us into a better team. It is greatly appreciated by all the players. We can't wait for next season in which we can put our talent to show and aim for one step further! Lily & Katie
