THE MOST HOLY BODY AND BLOOD OF CHRIST JUNE 3, 2018

Behind the scenes as a Sacristan I am sure you have noticed that within the context of a mass there are many working parts that, for the most part, run very smoothly. Did you ever wonder how these many parts run so well and who is responsible for making sure they do? It is because of the men and woman who work behind the scenes so faithfully that a Mass can run like clockwork. These are the people who serve as sacristans. Sacristans are such a vital part of parish life; the Mass and this ministry of sacristans has many responsibilities that go along with it. The sacristans are required to be at church at least an hour before Mass begins to unlock doors, turn on lights, replace the candles in the Eucharistic Chapel, and get everything that is needed for the mass ready to go. They prepare the table behind the altar with the cups, bowls and other items needed for the distribution of communion. They find

enough ministers to fill all the other ministries of the Mass such as lectors, Eucharistic Ministers, servers, ushers and cross bearers. They make sure there are enough hosts brought forward and that there is someone to bring the gifts up at the offertory. They guide the Eucharistic Ministers in bringing communion to those who are unable to come forward and receive. After Mass has ended, they make sure all the vessels used for communion are cleaned and ready for the next Mass. The sacristans stay at church until everyone has left the building, when they turn off the lights and lock the doors. Most of the responsibilities of the sacristan are behind the scenes and the majority of the time nobody else sees what they do. In the coming weeks, we will be featuring some of the sacristans in the bulletin so that you can see who they are and hopefully you will take the opportunity to thank them before or after Mass for taking on the ministry of sacristan.

Thinking of Fr. Benny As you may know Fr. Benny was unable to join us at the Parish Picnic because he is spending a month in India. We continue to pray for him as he attends the chapter meetings for his abbey in India, visits with the people he has ministered to in the past, and spends time with his family. May God watch over you and bless you, Fr. Benny!

If you get a chance visit Mount Calvary Cemetery. Flags have been place on all Veterans graves. It is very touching! Thank you to the Boy Scouts!

OLOL School News Last week I gave the 10 Commandments for School Success for Students. Parents play an integral part in the success of students in school and in life. I have observed parents for 12 years as a professional educator and 21 years as a parent. Successful students had parents that assisted them in different ways. Therefore, I’m passing along my 10 Commandments of Parents for School Success for students. 1. Pray to God for personal wisdom and grace to raise

faith-filled, successful students. 2. Create a positive healthy relationship with your child’s

teacher. 3. Allow children to make mistakes. Personal growth

comes from learning from mistakes. 4. Look for opportunities and allow your child to solve his

or her own problems. 5. Be encouraging. 6. Understand that education is a life-long journey. 7. Be a good communicator with everyone who is helping

raise your children. 8. Have a healthy perspective in regards to our children. 9. Try not to over-schedule your children. 10. In the end, if your love your children, teach them to care

for others, and have high expectations; they will be successful, happy adults.

Home Missions–Our Own Needs Collection – Strengthening the Church at Home The Home Missions –Our Own Needs Collection will be held at all Masses this weekend. This collection supports four major areas:

The Catholic Communications Campaign connects people with Christ through media programming to promote Gospel values. This campaign supports televised Masses and Catholic newspapers
