Dear Parishioners,

I am sure that none of us anticipated having to give our normal routine for Lent as we deal with the effects of the pandemic. While necessary we feel imposed upon. Last weeks Gospel the disciples asked Jesus about the Man Born Blind who sinned was it, the man born blind or his parents. Jesus responds neither. Basically, the world has good and bad and nature is simply nature. The mystery of good and evil, the forces of nature, and all that happens is always with. So is the love of God and the promise of eternal life.

The Gospel this week is the account of the raising of Lazarus from the dead. The passage gives up reason to hope in God as the author of life and Jesus Christ as the pathway to life eternal.

This is at the crux of our faith and what we celebrate at Easter. Unfortunately, it appears we will not celebrate Easter in the usual way. Remember our faith doesn’t rely on being able to celebrate as we would like to however wonderful that is for us. So as we contemplate today’s Gospel keep our hearts on the what Jesus has laid out for us.

God Bless,

Fr. Dave

Worthy Grand Knights and Ladies,

Fifrth Sunday of Lent Page 3 March 29, 2020

Continue to pray to stop the spread of the COVID-19.

With the decision to implement a ‘stay-at-home’ order to stop the spread or slow

the curve of the coronavirus, Our Lady of Lourdes and all parishes in the Diocese

of Kansas City-St. Joseph continue to suspend masses until April 24th

This includes the extension of the dispensation by the Bishop for all the faithful

from the obligation to participate at Mass on Sunday.

The gift of special Indulgences is granted to the faithful suffering from the Coronavirus, as well as to health care workers, family members and all those who in any capacity, including through prayer, care for them.”

This is a time of suffering, especially for those who have contracted COVID-19. As such, it may be a time for us to “rediscover ‘the same redemptive suffering of Christ’ (Salvifici doloris, 30).”

The faithful are encouraged to celebrate Sunday as a domestic church

by taking time to pray together as a household.

What This Means for Our Lady of Lourdes Parish:

~ Parish Office is closed although we are accepting phone calls during regular

office hours.

~ Private Mass: Fr. Holloway will continue to celebrate one private Mass a

weekend (at St. Bernadette), Mass intentions for Our Lady of Lourdes will be

rescheduled at a later date.

~ Confessions: Fr. Holloway will continue to hear at 3 pm at St.Bernadette,

although it will take place outside of the confessional allowing enough space

between people. ~ Perpetual Adoration will be suspended during this time as well, but Do not let

this interruption at Our Lady of Lourdes become an interruption in your personal

prayer life! Online Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration: Webcams in Chapels

around the World https://virtualadoration.home.blog/

~ All Parish activities, events, or meetings are suspended at the parish

campus until further notice which includes Stations of the Cross, Sacred

Heart Devotion, Spanish Holy Hour & devotional groups.

~ AFF: Feed Your Faith will continue their DVD series at home for

those that are interested contact Sr. Damiana 816-353-2177

Prayer to Saint Roch

O Blessed Saint Roch,

Patron of the sick,

Have pity on those

Who lie upon a bed of suffering.

Your power was so great

When you were in this world,

That by the sign of the Cross,

Many were healed of their diseases.

Now that you are in heaven,

Your power is not less.

Offer, then, to God

Our sighs and tears

And obtain for us that health we seek

Through Christ our Lord.

Amen.

(Repeat the following 3 times)

Saint Roch, pray for us,

That we may be preserved

From all diseases of body and soul.

Time to Choose Your Saint!

The Fundraising Committee invites all OLL Ministries, and any individual or g roup, to participate in a "Fun Raiser” event at Our Lady of Lourdes on May 3rd. It will be held in the Parish Hall after the 11:00 Mass. It is a celebration of saints, parish ministries, and all parishioners at OLL. Our hope is each parish ministry will host a table honoring a saint whose life most represents that ministry. Watch bulletin for more info.

Stewardship Bulletin Reflection: March 29, 2020 Fifth Sunday of Lent

EZ 37:12-14; PS 130:1-8; ROM 8:8-11; JN 11:1-45

At this point in our Lenten journey, it is tempting to grow weary of the spiritual disciplines we have taken on. Today’s readings inspire us to remain faithful, in grateful response to a God who loves us so much.

In our first reading, the prophet Ezekiel speaks God’s own words to us. “I will put my spirit in you that you may live… I have promised and I will do it, says the Lord.” Our God wants to be so closely united to us that we are one with Him. And He has promised He will do it. But only if we make room for Him by making Him THE priority of our lives. Putting God first is a grateful response that is very pleasing to Him.

How can we do this? Our second reading, from Romans, tell us. “Those who are in the flesh cannot please God. But you are not in the flesh… you are in the spirit if only the Spirit of God dwells in you.”

The disciplines of Lent and a stewardship way of life are wonderful gifts that free us from too great an attachment to “the flesh.” The sacrifices we make as Christian stewards are not meant to restrict our freedom and joy. Quite the contrary. They are tools to help us find the real freedom and joy that only come when we make room in our lives for God.

As we journey closer to the Passion of our Lord, let us intensify our Lenten resolutions and our stewardship way of life, inviting the Holy Spirit to take over more and more of our lives. By Easter, we will be freer to rejoice in Him and truly pleasing to God.

Quotes of St. John Climacus Feast Day: March 30

“Humility is the only virtue that no devil can imitate. If pride made demons out of angels, there is no doubt that humility could make angels out of demons.”

“Obedience is the burial of the will and the resurrection of humility.”

“Repentance lifts a man up. Mourning knocks at Heaven’s gate. Holy humility opens it.”

“Meekness is an unchanging state of mind, which both in honor and dishonor remains the same. Meekness consists in praying sincerely and undisturbedly in the face of afflictions from one’s neighbor. Meekness is a cliff rising from the sea of irritability, against which all the waves that strive against it break, but which is itself never broken.”

“Faith furnishes prayer with wings, without which it cannot soar to Heaven.”

“A servant of the Lord is he who in body stands before men, but in mind knocks at Heaven with prayer.”

“In all your undertakings and in every way of life, whether you are living in obedience, or are not submitting your work to anyone, whether in outward or in spiritual matters, let it be your rule and practice to ask yourself: Am I really doing this in accordance with God’s will?”

“A proud soul is the slave of cowardice. Trusting only itself, it is frightened by a sound or a shadow.”

“The memory of insults is the residue of anger.”

“Hypocrisy is the mother of lying and frequently its cause. Some would argue that hypocrisy is nothing other than a meditation on falsehood, that it is the inventor of falsehood laced with lies.”

“In the hearts of the meek, the Lord finds rest, but a turbulent soul is a seat for the devil.” “Pride makes us forget our sins, for the remembrance of them leads to humility.”

“God is not unjust. He will not slam the door against the man who humbly knocks.”

“The beginning of freedom from anger is silence of the lips when the heart is agitated; the middle is silence of the thoughts when there is a mere disturbance of soul; and the end is an imperturbable calm under the breath of unclean winds.”

“Join humility to temperance, for the one is useless without the other.”

“The lover of silence draws close to God. He talks to Him in secret, and God enlightens him. Jesus, by His silence, shamed Pilate; and a man, by his silence conquers vainglory.”

“Fire and water do not mix, neither can you mix judgment of others with the desire to repent.”

“As long as anger live, it continues to be the fruitful parent of many unhappy children.”

“Pride is utter poverty of soul disguised as riches, imaginary light where in fact there is darkness.”

DIOCESE OF KANSAS CITY -ST. JOSEPH One Family: RESTORED IN CHRIST -EQUIPPED FORM M ISSIO

March 24:Message from Bishop Johnston on COVID-19

I've gotten so many wonderful reports from around the diocese

about how parishes and all of you are responding to the challenges

in spite of not being able to get together, especially together at the

celebration of the Mass.

It's a deeply challenging time for us, and we're experiencing a kind of fasting we didn't

think we'd undertake during this season of Lent. We're used to fasting from other

things--hopefully this will be a time for us to deepen our love for the Holy Eucharist,

our appreciation for it.

Many of our parishes have been able to use some new technology--many are now live

streaming the Mass, and I think that's a wonderful thing to help keep us connected

virtually and united in prayer. Parishes are still operating and our teachers are still

teaching, so a lot of that is continuing--thanks for your support there too. If able, I

encourage you to continue your support of parishes and schools, via online

contribution or sending it in.

Continue to pray for the quick end of this disease and for all those affected by it: those

who are sick, those who are having livelihoods affected by this. Pray not only for

ourselves, but for the world, and in union with those around the world.

Pope Francis has urged all Christians on March 25 to pray an Our Father at 6 am

(CST),joining millions around the world in prayer. Pray the Rosary, the Divine Mercy

Chaplet or other prayers, just continue to lift up the world to our Father in prayer for

His divine mercy.

Thank you for your prayers for me, and be assured that I continue to pray for all of

you, especially when I offer the Mass.

OUR AT-RISK NEIGHBORS NEED YOU NOW: At Catholic

Charities of Kansas City-St. Joseph,

the health and safety of our clients,

staff, and community are paramount.

Like other agencies, we are working

to respond to the impact of COVID-

19. At-risk families are struggling

even more in these anxious and

uncertain times. They may have lost

wages or even their employment due

to restaurant, retail and venue

closures. School closures may mean

that their children have lost food

security as part of their educational

day. And an unfortunate number will

deal with the actual illness. We are

preparing for as much as a 40%

increase in requests in the coming

days and weeks as this pandemic

progresses, and we will be there to

answer the need. You can be part of

that answer.

Please be generous in your assistance

and contact Lynn Lichte, Donor

Stewardship Specialist, at 816-659-
