Feedback from our Confirmation Candidates on their retreat day was overwhelmingly positive! In their own words, here are some comments they shared about their retreat experience:

One life lesson I learned was how to use meditative prayer whenever I need to relax and focus.

I realized that after Confirmation, it is my responsibility to keep the faith within me.

Life is your own responsibility and you have to make the right choices and decisions. The gifts

of the Holy Spirit will help you to do this.

I enjoyed the guided meditative prayer because it taught me how to connect better with God.

It made a big impression on me when the college student shared his story about balancing his

faith with the other parts of his life. He said that Jesus is like his best friend, someone who is

with him wherever he goes. When he socializes, he tries to always bring the light of Jesus to his

friends. I liked that!

The way that the gifts of the Holy Spirit was explained, in a clear and fun way by relating them to

familiar things, made the gifts easy for me to understand.

I learned that everyone was given special talents and gifts from God, and we need to work with

each other as a team instead of judging those who are different.

My favorite part of the retreat was working in small groups with students who I didn’t know well.

I liked getting to know new people.

I liked that you can have fun and learn about your faith at the same time!

I enjoyed listening to the retreat leaders because it was interesting to hear about their different

lifestyles and opinions.

My favorite part of the retreat was identifying things I do well, and things I need to work on

improving, and then asking God to help me improve those things.

I will take-away from the retreat how to just sit in the presence of God and reflect upon my life.

The Gifts of the Holy Spirit will guide us to heaven.

PRO-LIFE NEWS

DECEMBER 12TH, FEAST OF OUR LADY OF GUADALUPE

Virgin of Guadalupe, Patroness of unborn children, we implore your intercession for every child at risk of

abortion.

Help expectant parents to welcome from God the priceless gift of their child’s life. Console parents who have lost that gift through abor-

tion and lead them to forgiveness through the Divine Mercy of your Son. Teach us to cherish and to care for family and friends until

God calls them home. Help us never to see others as burdens. Guide our public officials to defend each and every human life through just laws. Inspire us all to bring our faith into public life, to speak for those who have no voice. We ask this in the name of your Son,

Jesus Christ, who is Love and Mercy itself. Amen.

OUR LADY OF GUADALUPE MEMORIAL MASS Tuesday, December 18 at 7:30pm, Msgr. Delaney K of C, 110 Merritts Rd,

Farmingdale. There will be a special blessing for expectant mothers. Refreshments served. For info call Keith Wilson, 516-633-1435.

DID YOU KNOW? Obianuju Ekeocha is a strong pro-life advocate who shared an article on Facebook about the African Culture of

Life and protection of the unborn. Facebook censored the article stating, “it goes against our community standards”. She is a strong ad-

vocate for life on social media and recently urged Georgetown University students to “respect human life from womb to tomb”. She has

helped to expose the global push to legalize abortion on demand, especially in Africa where most countries protect unborn babies’ lives.

“We Care” Blankets

As our wonderful group of “Care Blan-ket” volunteers continue to meet on Wednesday mornings from 10:00-11:30am at Parish Outreach, the gifts of their love, time and talent in crocheting and knitting beautiful blankets for seriously ill children is nothing less than a beautiful thing!

Since our group began in November 2009, the com-pleted blanket count stands at 3,323. I’m sure in no time at all we will be adding to this amazing num-ber. Thank you to our lovely group of ladies for all the good work you do to bring love and comfort to many children undergoing cancer care.

Outreach is happy to accept donations of crochet hooks, and is especially in need of acrylic yarns in support of this effort. If you are interested in join-ing our group please contact Parish Outreach at 516-541-1260.

“Ministry of Consolation”

Our parish is richly blessed to have gathered a won-derful group of volunteers who make up Our Lady of Lourdes “Ministry of Consolation” team. The most valuable gifts we can give are those that come from the heart. The precious gifts of our time, love and compassion are especially needed during the time of the loss of a loved one.

Created to provide warmth, caring and personal at-tention to assist families in preparation for the fu-neral Mass, this particular ministry can never have too many helping hands. Whether your interest be that of a Greeter, Lector or EM, please give some thought as to sharing your time and talents and be-ing a part of this ministry’s call to love and care for one another.

Thank you so much to all our volunteers for em-bracing this beautiful ministry. Please call Parish Outreach at 516-541-1260 if you would like to vol-unteer. Thank you for your consideration.

Christmas “Giving Tree”

As we look forward to the Christmas season, the Christmas “Giving Tree” will again be displayed in the entrance of the Church as of the weekend of November 24 & 25, until Sunday, Dec.16h for your consideration.

Please consider taking an ornament and purchasing the suggested gift card in an amount of your choosing, but not exceeding $50 on each card, allowing us to serve more people in need. We will begin distribution of the “Giving Tree” Gift Cards the week of Dec. 10th, to allow our neighbors in need time to shop for their families.

Gift Cards should be returned to Parish Outreach on or before the week of December 10th . Outreach hours are Monday, Tuesday & Thursday 10:00am – 2:00pm, and Wednesday 10:00am - 11:30am. Thank you for all you do in kindness to others!
