“For you were called to freedom, brothers and sisters. But do not use this freedom as an opportunity for the flesh;
rather serve one another through love.” Galatians 5:13
Dear Parishioners of Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish Shrine,
I would like to share this letter with you that I received from a 4th grader from our
school, Blessed John Paul II. This journal exemplifies the importance of Catholic
education and how faith affects one’s spiritual life. Jesus’ affection for children is clearly
affirmed in the Gospels. When his disciples attempted to halt people from bringing
children to Jesus for his blessing, he insisted: “let the children come to me, and do not stop them; for it is such
as these that the kingdom of heaven belongs.” (Mt 19:14)

Dear Fr. Joe,
Here is my journal topic I wrote about our church. I hope you like it. Have a great summer!
The World Around You
A place in my community is Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. It is located in Stratford, New Jersey.
Father Joe is the pastor of our parish. I go there with my family. I also go there with my classmates and
teachers at my school which is called John Paul II. It is a very nice church. I really enjoy going to church
and being part of our parish.
The church was built in the year 1996. In the years before that, the Parish Hall at our school was used
as the church. It was also used as the school gym and for other school and church functions. I am glad we
now have a separate church. The new church is large and can hold a lot of people. The names of parishioners
who made donations to help pay for some of the features inside the church are etched into the glass entryway.
The church is very beautiful. When you walk in it feels very holy and peaceful. The tall ceiling with
skylights makes it very bright and cheerful. There is a large crucifix hanging behind the altar and a lot of
pews for people to sit. In the back of the church there is a marble baptismal font.
People go there to visit God and worship Him. They celebrate Mass together. They pray, sing, and
give thanks for all the blessings that God has given them. They offer each other the sign of peace. They listen
to the priest and learn about the gospel. They learn how to act more like Jesus, follow him, and be better
Christians.
In conclusion, Our Lady of Guadalupe Church is a place for my community. The new church was
built more than twenty years ago. It is a place in my community. It is a place that we go to worship God and
learn about the teachings of Jesus. It is peaceful and beautiful place that is bright and cheerful. It makes me
happy to have such a great place to go in my community.

Stewardship: Stewards Serve One Another
“For you were called to freedom, brothers and sisters. But
do not use this freedom as an opportunity for the flesh;
rather serve one another through love.” Galatians 5:13
We like to celebrate the fact that we are free to “live the
good life.” But Jesus calls us to a different kind of
Stewardship. St. Paul reminds us that Jesus sets us free so
that we can serve one another, share our gifts and promote
God’s work here on earth to glorify His name and not
honor ourselves.
We would like to invite all men in our parish to grow
in our faith together as iron sharpens iron.
(Proverbs 27:17)

Consolation Ministry
Fortnight for Freedom - June 21 to July 4, 2013
Our religious freedom is not something we can take for granted today. From the HHS Mandate that is affect-
ing our healthcare and insurance to the push for legalizing same-sex
marriage, our Catholic values and beliefs are being undermined and attacked in our society.
Prayer for the Protection of Religious Liberty
O God our Creator,
from your provident hand we have received
our right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
You have called us as your people and given us
the right and the duty to worship you, the only true God,
and your Son, Jesus Christ.
Through the power and working of your Holy Spirit,
you call us to live out our faith in the midst of the world,
bringing the light and the saving truth of the Gospel
to every corner of society.
We ask you to bless us
in our vigilance for the gift of religious liberty.
Give us the strength of mind and heart
to readily defend our freedoms when they are threatened;
give us courage in making our voices heard
on behalf of the rights of your Church
and the freedom of conscience of all people of faith.
Grant, we pray, O heavenly Father,
a clear and united voice to all your sons and daughters
gathered in your Church
in this decisive hour in the history of our nation,
so that, with every trial withstood
and every danger overcome—
for the sake of our children, our grandchildren,
and all who come after us—
this great land will always be "one nation, under God,
indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen.
