Our Lady of Grace Parish - May 5th, 2019
A Letter from our Pastor . . . Dear Parishioners of Our Lady of Grace Parish,
It is with mixed emotions that I must announce to you that Bishop Weisenburger has in-
formed me that he is reassigning me to be the new pastor of Sacred Heart Parish in Nogales,
Arizona, effective July 1, 2019. The current pastor of Sacred Heart Parish is being named the
new pastor of our parish, Fr. Jay Luczak. Fr. Showri will remain as Parochial Vicar.
As I come to end of my time here as your pastor, I feel overwhelmed at my inability to ex-
press adequately my sense of gratitude and thankfulness to you as members of this parish. Many
of us came to Maricopa from other towns and cities, and some have lived all their lives here. I
was sent by Bishop Kicanas in January 2007 to establish a parish from what was a mission out of
St. Anthony’s in Casa Grande, the Mission of St. Francis de Sales which eventually was renamed
Our Lady of Grace Roman Catholic Church in Maricopa. When I arrived I was both excited and
a little apprehensive. I was excited at the prospect of helping to form a family of faith, a family
of the Catholic faith, true to the ancient and traditional teaching that is our heritage received
from the Apostles with Christ Himself as its source. I was also excited to have the prospect of
building a church for the glory of God and the good of His people. I was apprehensive because
this task was a good work I never thought would fall to me. But it was God’s will, and so it has
come to be.
Looking upon the success of the parish, I look to the faith of the people, the growth in the
spiritual life of youth, the education of the children preparing for their sacraments, the charita-
ble outreach to those in need, and the attendance at Mass. This is the Church and I am most
grateful to God for granting me the opportunity to do His work. I acknowledge publicly before
everyone that the credit for any success we have had as a parish belongs to the God the almighty
Father, and His Son, Jesus Christ, whose disciples we are, and the power of the Holy Spirit,
through which we have been able to work. And of course relying on the intercession of Our
Lady of Grace.
Thirty years ago on the day of my priestly ordination as I knelt before Bishop Moreno, he ask
me, “Do you promise respect and obedience to me and my successors?” And without hesitation
and with full trust and confidence in God I answered, “I do!” I say that it is with mixed emo-
tions that I make this announcement because while it will be very difficult and sad for me to
leave and say goodbye to you good and holy people, I am happy to continue to go where the
Lord Jesus sends me through the holy Catholic Church. My desire is to be a good and holy
priest, obedient to the Lord and His Church. Let us pray for one another.
In Christ,
Fr.
Me
