INFANT BAPTISMS For children under 7 years of age, the sacrament is celebrated the FIRST Sunday of the month at 2:00 pm. The parents must register in the parish office at least 4 weeks prior to the baptism. Both parents and godparents are expected to attend one catechetical session in advance, on the Wednesday before the baptism, at 7:00 pm.

SACRAMENTS OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION Before being fully initiated into the sacramental life of the Church, children over the age of 7 will need catechetical prepa-ration through the RCIC process. Teenagers and adults will par-ticipate in separate RCIA processes. CONFIRMATION and COMMUNION For those already baptized, preparation for these Sacraments will take place according to the person’s age and knowledge of the Catholic Faith. For further information contact the Office of Faith Formation Program.

MARRIAGES Couples should contact the parish office at least six months in advance to make the proper ar rangements for the Sacrament of Matrimony.

FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK

Dear Parishioners,

October is the month of the rosary. The rosary is a wonderful prayer that the Blessed Mother gives to us. It helps us to meditate on the mysteries of Christ’s life while we ask Mary, Christ’s mother, to help us in our lives to grow in God’s grace as she did. We say over and over again, “Hail Mary full of grace, the Lord is with Thee.” We recognize that Mary was given grace and is full of the grace of God. Grace is a relationship with God. In the Catechism, grace is defined in this way, “The free and undeserved gift that God gives us to respond to our vocation to become his adopted children.” This reminds me of a beautiful scripture passage from 1 John 3:1, “See what love the Father has be-stowed on us that we may be called the children of God.” It was the grace of God that enabled Mary to be obedient to God and say yes to his call for her to be the Mother of Our Lord, Jesus. By grace, Mary cooperated to bring about the redemption of the world.

Brothers and sisters we are children of God because God loves us. When we petition Mary over and over again in the rosary, “Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners,” we are asking her to help us to receive the grace God wants to give to us. We are saying we want to be like Mary and say yes to God by cooperating in our lives with the call of discipleship. God knows the best way you can respond to him today. One way is to pray the rosary. Also, one way in our parish that we are suggest-ing to help us grow in grace as a parish is to continue to pray 5 minutes a day at 6:00 pm until Satur-day, October 12th. In 5 minutes you could say a decade or two of the Rosary. A decade is an Our Fa-ther and ten Hail Marys.

October is also Respect Life Month. On the website: www.usccb.org/about/pro-life-activities/prayers/pray-for-life-october-2019.cfm, the Conference of Bishops suggest that we can pray a decade of the rosary this month for intentions of life such as, “That all baptized Christians will be open to the Holy Spirit and bear witness to the sanctity of life.” May our prayers with Mary be fruitful by the grace of God. Our Lady of Fatima pray for us.

DEL ESCRITORIO DEL PÁRROCO

Queridos feligreses, Octubre es el mes del rosario. El rosario es una oración maravillosa que la Santísima Madre nos da. Nos ayuda a meditar en los misterios de la vida de Cristo mientras le pedimos a María, la madre de Cristo, que nos ayude en nuestra vida a crecer en la gracia de Dios como lo hizo. Decimos una y otra vez: "Ave María llena de gracia, el Señor está contigo." Reconocemos que a María se le dio gra-cia y está llena de la gracia de Dios. La gracia es una relación con Dios. En el Catecismo, la gracia se define de esta manera: "El don libre e inmerecido que Dios nos da para responder a nuestra vocación de convertirse en sus hijos adoptivos". Esto me recuerda a un hermoso pasaje de las Escri-turas de 1 Juan 3:1, "Mira qué amor nos ha concedido el Padre para que seamos llamados hijos de Dios." Fue la gracia de Dios la que permitió a María ser obediente a Dios y decir sí a su llamado a que fuera la Madre de Nuestro Señor, Jesús. Por gracia, María cooperó para llevar a cabo la re-dención del mundo.

Hermanos y hermanas somos hijos de Dios porque Dios nos ama. Cuando pedimos a María una y otra vez en el rosario: "Santa María, Madre de Dios, ora por nosotros pecadores", le pedimos que nos ayude a recibir la gracia que Dios quiere darnos. Estamos diciendo que queremos ser como Ma-ría y decir sí a Dios cooperando en nuestra vida con la llamada del discipulado. Dios sabe la mejor manera de responderle hoy. Una forma es rezar el rosario. Además, una manera en nuestra par-roquia que estamos sugiriendo para ayudarnos a crecer en gracia como parroquia es continuar re-zando 5 minutos al día a las 6:00 pm hasta el sábado 12 de octubre. En 5 minutos se podría decir una década o dos del Rosario. Una década es un Padre Nuestro y diez Ave Marías.

Octubre también es el Mes de respetar la vida. En el sitio web: www.usccb.org/about/pro-life-activities/prayers/pray-for-life-october-2019.cfm, la Conferencia episcopal sugiere que podemos orar una década del rosario este mes por intenciones de vida como: "Que todos los cristianos bautizados estén abiertos a el Espíritu Santo y dar testimonio de la santidad de la vida." Que nuestras oraciones con María sean fructíferas por la gracia de Dios. Nuestra Señora de Fátima reza por nosotros.
