COVERING OF STATUES

As Catholics, no time during the year is as important or as meaningful as the sea-son of Lent. While we abstain from meat on Fridays, say prayers and make many sacrifices, we approach the Passiontide with a renewed vigor. This time leads us up to and including Holy Week. Before Vatican II, the practice of covering the crosses and statues in either purple or red was done faithfully in every church usu-ally around the 5th Sunday of Lent. The reason for the covers was to emphasize the solemnity of the season, and to remember when Jesus was in the desert. After Vatican II, an effort was made to put an end to this practice, but recently the prac-tice has returned and many of our local parishes cover the statues again. The co-vers will remain on during Holy Week and will be removed on Holy Saturday.

VIEWING OF JESUS

Holy Saturday Morning - 9AM to 12 - the statue of Jesus taken down from the cross will be displayed in the sanctuary of OLC Church. Please stop by to pay your respects, and use the time for a period of reflection.

do.
