Croatia is a country in the southern Europe

CROATIA• Croatia is a medium-

size European country.

• Its position is both central European and Mediterranean, as well as Pannonian-Adriatic.

• It borders with Serbia, Hungary, Slovenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro and with Italy and Slovenia on the sea.

THE REPUBLIC OF CROATIA

• Its constitutional tradition dates back to the mediaeval duchy (8th century).

• The Republic of Croatia was proclaimed on 25 June 1991. It is our Statehood Day.

• Croatia is defined as a unitary and indivisible democratic and social state.

ZAGREB

• The capital of Croatia is Zagreb.• Zagreb is also the biggest city (1,5 million residents).

REGIONS IN CROATIA • It’s divided into the

Pannonian part of Croatia, the Region of mountains (Gorski kotar and Lika ) and the region of Hrvatsko primorje (Croatian coastal region).

• The highest mountains are Dinara, Kamešnica, Biokovo and Velebit, and the biggest rivers are the Sava,the Drava, the Danube and the Krka.

CLIMATE

• Much of Croatia exhibits moderate continental climate while the mountain climate is found in higher mountain ranges such as Velebit.

• Islands have the Mediterranean climate.

TOURISM IN CROATIA

• Tourism in Croatia has a tradition of over 150 years.

• Its begginnings are linked with health resorts (Daruvar, 1818) and sea tourism.

• Croatian coastal region is the most developed tourist region accounting for as many as 93% of the income from tourism.

CROATIAN ISLANDS

• The Adriatic sea is a small and relatively shallow sea.

• Croatia has many islands (around 1000) on the Adriatic sea.

• The biggest islands are Krk, Cres, Brač and Hvar.

• The islands of Korčula, Krk, Brač and Hvar have the largest population.

NATIONAL PARKS• Plitvice Lakes – the oldest, largest

and best-known Croatian National park (sixteen lakes connected by a series of waterfalls).

• Other national parks: Northern Velebit (the largest

mountain range in Croatia), Paklenica (on the most attractive parts of southern Velebit), Risnjak (in Gorski Kotar), Mljet (on the island of Mljet), Kornati (86 big and small islands), Brijuni (consists of 14 islands) and Krka (on the River Krka).

BJELOVAR

BJELOVAR

• A town in the Lonja-Ilova basin, in the southern piedmont part of Bilogora, 80 km east of Zagreb.

• Has a population of 45 thousand. • Cultural, administrative and business centre of

the Bilogora region. • Major industries: food processing (milling

industry, meat products, alcoholic drinks, dairy products, biscuits), building contracting and metal processing.

BJELOVAR

• First mentioned in 1420 as a market town.

• On the map by Stjepan Glavač (1673) the town was called Belovac.

• In 1756, the construction of a military settlement started which gradually got the features of an artisan and merchant town.

• Bjelovar was granted the status of a free royal town in 1874.

BJELOVAR’S BUILDINGS• The main square is a

successfully conceived urban whole, typical for military-border towns.

• Among the cultural and historical monuments, the most interesting are the Town Museum building, the cathedral-the Church of St. Theresa with the Historic Archives and the “Preradović” barracks.

• Terezijana (Celebration of the coming of queen Theresa to town Bjelovar in 18th century)- a cultural and a touristic spectacle in July.

• Europski tjedan (European week)

• Bjelovar Livestock Exhibition (in September)- the main annual event in the town.

OUR SCHOOLIV. OSNOVNA ŠKOLA BJELOVAR4TH PRIMARY SCHOOL BJELOVAR

• 4th Primary School Bjelovar was opened on 7 September 1973.

• The School has 766 students and 74 employees.

• Since the day it was opened, it has been called “the red beauty”.

The school surroundingsThe school has got a beautiful and large surrounding ground used for playing, out-of-school activities and having lessons outside, in the nature.

The school libraryOus school library is well-equiped with books, magazines, various games, and is a place that our students always like to visit.

The central part of our school building is a large hall which is used for different events such as school plays, holiday celebrations, school day celebrations and dance evenings.
