Our Church Covenant
We are banded together as a Christian Church
to maintain the worship of God,
to proclaim the gospel of Christ,
to develop in all people a consciousness of their relations and duties
to God and to each other, and
to inspire them with love for truth, passion for righteousness,
and enthusiasm for service.
To this end we pledge our loyalty to Christ and covenant with each other
to express God’s spirit in our individual and corporate life;
to live together as Christians and to submit ourselves to the
government of this Church,
working, giving, praying for its increase, its purity, its peace,
and seeking in every way to make it a power
for the building up of the kingdom of God.

WELCOME Stephen Pfaff
INVITATION TO CONFESSION Emma Green
PRAYER OF CONFESSION
One: All knowing and seeing God, help us to see as you see.
All: So often we choose to see what is missing in our lives and forget to see the
gifts that are already there. Forgive us. In our longing for you, we look toward
tasks and possessions to fill the void within. Forgive us. Out of laziness and
convenience we turn a blind eye to the injustices in our world, in our homes
and in our very hearts. Forgive us. Sharpen our vision. Give us your eyes of
love and mercy to know ourselves, our neighbors and the world around us.
Help us to see your goodness in all creation as we bring our silent prayers to
you. (please observe time for silent prayer)
In Jesus’ name,
AMEN.

Village Churchwomen’s Annual Meeting and Lunch
Tuesday, May 10, 12 Noon, Village Common
Please RSVP by Friday, April 29th to [email protected] or on the signup sheet in the Lobby
Have you ever wondered how our pastor found her way -- the right road for her? Have you
questioned how those temporary red lights in your own life might have created seemingly
insurmountable roadblocks on your personal journey of faith? Come to the Village
Churchwomen's Annual Meeting on Tuesday, May 10 to learn about our pastor's directional
signposts and especially how she learned to let the Holy Spirit sit in the driver's seat.
Pastor Sarah Sarchet Butter’s life before coming to our church was anything but a straight shot.
Can you relate to that? A life-long learner, she holds a BS in Biochemistry from Alma College
in her home state of Michigan, a M.Div. from Princeton Theological Seminary, an MBA from
Northwestern’s Kellogg School of Management, and expects to receive her D.Min. shortly
from the Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary. How many people do you know also hold
degrees like these? She also has dual standing in the Presbyterian Church ( where she was a
pastor since her 1992 ordination) and UCC Church (since coming to us). Come learn how she
plans to lead our congregation with energy, intelligence, imagination and love. Oh yes, and
come to learn about (stained) glass ceilings, too.
Volunteers Needed for Family Promise Village Church Host Week: May 22-29
You can help provide or serve a meal, play with children, do laundry, set up rooms, or stay
overnight. You can make a difference for four families transitioning out of homelessness. Roles
that include interacting with families require volunteers to have attended a Family Promise
training session. If you have questions or would like more information, please contact Susan
Mykrantz [email protected] or Christina Oliver [email protected].

OPPORTUNITIES FOR LEARNING, SERVICE AND COMMUNITY
All Are Welcome!
Stock the Shelves Food Drive, Month of May
During the summer, the shelves of the Wellesley Food Pantry have a tendency to become a
little sparse as donations tend to dry up for the season. However, the need for the food pantry
never ceases. Will you join us in stocking the shelves and keep our neighbors fed this summer?
Throughout the month of May, we will be collecting nonperishable items in Village Common
to stock the shelves for the summer! Some suggested items of need include coffee, peanut
butter, jelly, laundry detergent, and canned fruit. All donations are welcome! The food
collected will be blessed as part of worship on Sunday, June 5th before it is delivered. If you
have any questions, please contact Joshua Fitterling at 781-235-1988 ext. 23 or at

SERVICE OF HOLY COMMUNION
This is Christ’s open table and all who wish to partake are welcome! We receive communion by
intinction. If you are seated in the center of the sanctuary, please come forward using the center
aisle, take the bread, dip it into the cup of grape juice, partake, and return to your pew via the
side aisle. If you are in the transepts, servers will come to you. Gluten free bread and cup is
offered by the piano. If you prefer a blessing in words instead of communion, simply cross your
arms over your chest.
Invitation Will Cramer

The Gift of the Bread and Cup
Thank you to the adult youth group advisors for the generous gift of their time to support and foster the

church. Thank you, Dave Emslie, Tim Loff, Bev Lenci, David Cahill, Josh Fitterling, Megan Snell,
Margie Sipe, Ellice Patterson, Linda Gallinaro, Sally Kellogg, Sarah Dymecki and Michaela McDonald.
Thank you to Aaron (Paco) Kauffman, who, once again, joined our service project to Santa Fe, New
Mexico this year.
We are also grateful for the 11th Grade Advisors and their support of the youth of our 8th Grade Youth
Group. We thank them for their commitment to the middle school youth in our church.
Thank you to the 10th Grade Advisors, a group of youth who are committed to sharing themselves and
their love of our church with the 6th and 7th graders, the youngest members of our Youth Program.
And, thanks to all of you, members of this church, for your on- going love and financial support of our
youth and the youth program. Without you this program would not be possible. All the youth and the
advisors thank you, thank you, thank you!

So build us a table and tear down the wall! Christ is our host. There is room for us all! The Prayer of Thanksgiving
We thank you, God, that at this table we have touched and tasted the signs of your
love for us. Increase our love for one another, and send us forth into the world in
courage and peace, rejoicing in the power of the Holy Spirit. Sanctify our living
and make us one with all the saints whose very lives sing to your glory, through
Christ our Lord, Amen.
