Due to the increased demand for transport of

oversized, heavy-lift project cargoes in the short sea

market, BOE has become specialised over the years

in the transportation of project cargoes in the short

sea shipping segment. This knowledge has been

developed in step with the growth of the shipping, oil,

gas and energy market, and in line with our clients’

needs and expectations. In most shipments, each vessel

has to be evaluated closely in order to check and

ensure that it is suitable for the cargo requirement.

As an independent broker in a competitive short sea

market, it is important for us to:

- Cover the complete short sea fleet in order to find

the most suitable vessel in the best position and with

the correct vessel descriptions for the transport

assignment.

- Offer individual solutions to each of our client’s needs,

on terms agreed between the seller and buyer. Our

services can start by providing a transport perspective

already at the product design/development stage,

thereby ensuring safe sea transport later on.

- Have experience of shipping a wide range of project

cargoes on various vessels in the market, enabling

us to know exactly which vessels will suit your cargo

requirements.

- Receive sufficient information about the product

that is being shipped in order to make calculations and

implement procedures to handle the cargo according

to the charterer’s expectations and guidelines.

WE WILL ALWAYS TRY TO

EXCEED YOUR

EXPECTATIONS IN THE WAY

WE CONDUCT OUR BUSINESS

Page 21: Our brochure

The Norwegian coast is 100,195 km long and is the

world’s second longest coast after Canada. It offers a

wide range of geographical restrictions, such as long

fjords, shallow waters, small berths and, in many cases

during the winter season, harsh weather conditions.

Our office has outstanding knowledge of different

products and commodities, and about compliance

requirements in all Norwegian ports.

We can offer our agency services to most of the ports

along the Norwegian coast.

In order to provide a first-class agency service in

Norway, it is important for us to:

- Keep all parties updated at all times about the position

of the vessel and the status of the cargo and/or vessel

operations/prospects in the port.

- Maintain close communication with owners, shippers,

receivers and relevant authorities.

- Make sure that all documentation for inward and

outward clearance of the vessel is uploaded online

into the Norwegian authorities’ ‘Safe-Sea net’ system

in good time before the vessel’s arrival/departure.

- Contribute in the best possible way to all onshore

operations to make sure that they are coordinated

and to ensure a safe and cost-efficient operation in

port, thereby making the vessel’s stay as short and

safe as possible.

- Have the necessary know-how about where to source

the most cost-effective solutions/products/provisions to

optimise the vessel’s port call.

The front page illustration:

A famous ship from Arendal, with a dramatic World War II history

On 9 April 1940, when Norway was invaded by Germany and entered the war, the M/T Chr. Th. Boe, was two days off Adadan in the Persian Gulf.

Up until 1942, she traded crude oil in the

Indian Ocean and along the coast of Africa,

where there were many enemy submarines

and raiders.

From 1942 until the end of the war in 1945,

she traded across the Atlantic and in the UK,

where she carried liquid fuel and lubrication

oil for the allied forces.

In 1943, the vessel was docked in Swansea

for six weeks, when the city and several other

ships moored in the harbour were badly

damaged in enemy bombing raids. Chr. Th.

Boe became well-known after an American

reporter sailed on her across the Atlantic in a

convoy, and later wrote a number of articles

about the experience in The New Yorker. He

also wrote a book about the voyage under the

name A. J. Liebling, entitled The Road Back to

Paradise. He later (after the war) travelled to

Arendal to interview several of the ship’s crew

about their wartime experiences.

M/T Chr.Th.Boe sailed throughout WW II

without being hit by any bombs or torpedoes.

Nortraship (the Norwegian Shipping and

Trade Mission) lost about 500 merchant vessels

and 3,600 crew members during WW II.

M/T Chr. Th. Boe, 9525 DW, built at Götaverken in 1930.
