H. Naci Mocan, Ourso Distinguished Chair in Economics, was appointed to the Louisiana Advisory Committee of the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights. Advisory committee members conduct reviews and produce reports and recommendations on local civil rights issues including justice, housing, discrimination, education, and other important themes.

Helmut Schneider, executive director of statistical analysis for the Highway Safety Research Group and Ourso Family Distinguished Professor of Information Systems, lead a team that hosted the 43rd annual International Traffic Records Forum in New Orleans. During the conference, Cory Hutchinson, director of business analytics for the Highway Safety Research Group and adjunct faculty member in the Stephenson Department of Entrepreneurship & Information Systems, received the Scott Falb Exceptional Service Award for his contributions to the Association of Transportation Safety Information Professionals..

Dek Terrell, Freeport-McMoRan Endowed Chair of Economics and executive director of the LSU Economics & Policy Research Group, and Stephen R. Barnes, associate professor of economics and director, of the LSU Economics & Policy Research Group, authored a study about the economic impact of the NBA All-Star 2017 Weekend on the Louisiana economy. Their report showed the event generated an estimated $44.9 million in spending. The study was commissioned by Louisiana Economic Development and conducted with support from the National Basketball Association and the Greater New Orleans Sports Foundation.

Tommy Karam, senior instructor in the Department of Marketing and the Flores MBA Program, advises LSU athletes on personal branding. Karam works with both current student-athletes and alumni who have gone on to the pros. In a 24/7 news cycle, it is important for these Tigers to become comfortable with the media and to learn techniques for managing their personal brands.

Thomas Greckhamer, Catherine M. Rucks Professor of Management, has been invited to serve as associate editor of Organizational Research Methods, a journal established to promote a more effective understanding of current and new methodologies as applied in organizational research. ORM is the leading research methodology journal in all organizations disciplines and is sponsored by the Academy of Management.

> Joseph Mason, Hermann Moyse, Jr./Louisiana Bankers Association Endowed Chair of Banking Russell B. Long Professorship in Finance, and a study he conducted for the Insitute of Energy Research were both cited in a Wall Street Journal article titled “Donald Trump’s Economic Plan Up Close Doesn’t Add Up.”

> Louis-Philippe Beland and Daniel Brent, both assistant professors in the Department of Economics, spoke to KCRW in Los Angeles about their study on crime and traffic. The duo’s work shows that on extreme traffic days, which happen about 15 times per year, there is a 6 percent increase in domestic violence.

> Dana Hart, director of the LSU Flores MBA Program, spoke to The Business Report about factors that prospective students should consider before pursuing an MBA. He shared that while an MBA can lead to higher earnings and a wider range of job opportunities, it requires a significant financial, mental, and emotional effort from students.

> Richard D. White Jr., dean of the E. J. Ourso College of Business, was quoted in an April 19, 2017 New York Times article titled, “As Trump Drifts Away From Populism, His Supporters Grow Watchful.”

> The Entrepreneurship Bootcamp for Veterans with Disabilities (EBV) hosted by the LSU Stephenson Entrepreneurship Institute was the featured on Louisiana Public Broadcasting’s The State We’re In.
