An alternative resource, just as the term implies is a source of something which is different from the most common source.

An example is wind, this is the alternative resource. We think Northern Ireland should use it as there is plenty of wind coming into Northern Ireland

Wind energy has been used for pumping water and milling grain for hundreds of years.  More recently, wind energy has also been used for electricity generation.

Small wind turbine systems, with a capacity ranging from 50 W to 10 kW and rotor diameter ranging from about 0.5 m to 7 m, are primarily used in battery charging.

The batteries can then be used for energy supply for houses, hospitals, farms, telecommunication, navigation, etc.

Advantages of wind power would be: It’s cheap It helps conserve our natural resources They only take up a small bit of land so you can

still farm on it In remote areas where people are not joined to

the electricity grid wind can be used as a source of energy

Disadvantages of wind power would be: The turbines can reduce the population of

birds Wind turbines are noisy and at 70 mp/h can

reach the noise level of an ordinary family car

Why is it better than fossil fuels? Once it is set up, it’s free It doesn’t waste any resources It doesn’t harm the environment in any major way It’s renewable unlike coal, gas or turf/peat

Why is it better than other alternative energy resources?

Wind is plentiful in Northern Ireland It is free to use You can cut your energy bill down to almost down to

£0.00

Northern Ireland needs a new source of alternative energy and we’ve got the solution for less pollution. Wind power is very cheap and doesn’t harm the environment. It plays a big part in the recession, as well, as our country can progress now and other countries can follow in our footsteps.
