appy Father’s Day! You know it used to be that on Mother’s day the churches were full as all the moms urged their children to come to church with them as a gift. And then on Father’s Day it was the oppo- site as all the dads urged their kids to let them go play golf on Sunday instead of going to church. I love seeing dads buck the trend and bring their families to church on Father’s day to signal the importance of worship to their families. There are so many men who take their role as Christian father and spiritual leader seriously. This Father’s Day let’s say thank you to our dads who helped raise us in the faith. Thank you to our dads who took us to church. Thank you to our dads who taught us to pray. H THANK YOU DAD! Thank you to our dads who took the time to an- swer our faith questions. Thank you to dads who worked on their own relationship with God and modeled for us discipleship. Thank you to dads who said they were sorry and taught us humili- ty. Thank you to dads who forgave us when we messed up and showed us the heart of Christ. And let’s pray for fathers today too. It’s not always easy to be a dad, and it’s not always clear anymore what a dad’s responsibility is. So we pray that God would be Father to our fathers and guide them as they seek to lead, raise and guide their children. May God make our fathers great husbands to their wives and dads to their children. May God help our dads know how important they are in our lives and strengthen them to use their gifts and power to bless their children. —Pastor Travis Bless Our Christian Fathers & Spiritual Leaders

FROM THE PASTOR

“A personal relationship with Jesus.” That’s a simple phrase that summarizes my hope for every member of our congregation and frankly for every person in the world. You’ve probably heard that

phrase “personal relationship” before. Did you ever wonder what it meant? A personal relationship is pretty basic in its meaning. God is a person to be known. God is a person who has been revealed to us in Jesus. God has hopes and dreams, values and character. He created us to be in relationship with himself. The Garden of Eden story illustrates God’s intention, that we walk and talk with him. It’s not more complicated than that. Personal relationships are developed through communication. It’s the same with God. Talking with God, listening to God, asking God for help and guidance. That’s what I mean when I say I want you to have a personal relationship with God. I want all people to take full advantage of prayer. Not just set times of formal prayer, but prayer at all times throughout the day. Little prayers thanking God for small things. Quick prayers asking God for help with a decision or conversation. Silent prayers for the person across from you who seems to be in need. All of these prayers are part of that personal relationship.

You all have a relationship with Jesus, by virtue of your baptism. You have been adopted as children of God, clothed with Christ, co-heirs with Jesus. But that churchy language can sometimes be an obstacle to actually developing the relationship that has been given to you. Talk to God today. Right now, as you read this article, talk to God. Talk to Him about anything. He loves you and wants to spend as much time with you as possible. –Pastor Travis

Peel House Update

We are working hard on gearing up for the fall capital campaign. This past week we asked Tad Goodenbour if he would be willing to serve as the chairman of the campaign and he has graciously accepted the role and the responsibility. Thank you, Tad! In the next month pastor Carrie and Pastor Travis will work with Tad to identify leaders for the steering committee and reach out with requests to serve. We hope to have the team chairs all set by July 1st and begin recruiting volunteers for each team soon after.

From the Archives

January 16, 1927 weekly bulletin. "The council re-ported at the annual meeting the progress which had been made on our building proposition. Fur-ther steps must await the securing of additional subscriptions. Not nearly enough has as yet been subscribed. Neither have our resources been clearly exhausted. Let us continue to make this a matter of earnest prayer."

Introducing GivePlus Church Mobile App

As part of our electronic giving program, we offer GivePlus Church, our mobile giving app. You can make weekly offerings, respond to special appeals or set up a recurring donation all through your smartphone. If you’re like many people who use mobile apps for almost everything these days, we hope you’ll make GivePlus Church a regular part of your giving routine. Ask a staff member or visit our website if you have questions. Thank you for helping us create a thriving ministry.

Evergreen Cemetery Historical Tour

Evergreen was established shortly after the town was founded in 1871, and deeded to the City of Col-orado Springs in 1875 by city founder, General Wil-liam Jackson Palmer. As such, 220-acre Evergreen Cemetery enjoys a unique historical tie to the Colo-rado Springs community. In 1993, Evergreen was placed on the National Register of Historic Places, only the second cemetery in the state to receive such an honor. We will meet at the church at 9:15 am, and lunch will be at noon at Fargo’s Pizza. Each person will order off the menu.

COMING THIS SPRING AND SUMMER

Trail Trekkers’ June Hikes

Bratton/Mt. Dewey Trails (Green Mt. Falls) The Mt. Dewey Trail was completed in August, 2015, with the Bratton extension added in 2017. The trails are surrounded by 139 acres of forest land: 4-5 miles, rated moderately difficult with elevation gain. Bring a lunch to enjoy on the trail.

Lovell Gulch and White Gulch (Woodland Park) These trails, just two miles north of Woodland Park, offer stimulating diversity, including varied terrain, a stream and great views. It is listed as one of Colorado's best wildflower hikes. We’ll have lunch on the trail: 5½-6 miles, rated moder-ate with elevation gain/loss. Sign up in church or e-mail Judy if you plan to join us. ([email protected])

Book Discussion Group

The book for the June meeting of the Book Discussion Group is Becoming by Michelle Obama. In her memoir, a work of deep reflection and mesmerizing storytelling, Michelle Obama invites readers into her world, chronicling the experi-

ences that have shaped her—from her childhood on the south side of Chicago, to her time spent at the world’s most famous address. Becoming is the deeply personal reckoning of a woman of soul and substance who has steadily defied expectations—and whose story inspires us to do the same. Upcoming Reading

August 7: Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens.

September 4: Glory Over Everything: Beyond the Kitchen House by Kathleen Grissom.

October 2: Educated by Tara Westover.

November 6: The German Girl by Armando Lucas.

Health Care Advanced Directives
