Director’s Letter
Over this next month OSC will be engaging in Strategic Planning. Kristie Vest of Oswegoland Park District is lending her expertise to help us navigate this initiative. We will have surveys available the middle two weeks of March at the center and by email to gather your input. We will then host a few varied-time focus groups at the senior center, on Saturday, April 7th at 10am, Wednesday, April 11 at 10am, and Thursday, April 12 at 6:30pm, please join us for one of these. Matter of Balance will start again on April 9-May 3, this is a great class that engages in exercise and tackles some of our fears of falling in order to improve quality of life. Everyone who has taken this class in the past loves the results! I still have people telling me that they have continued their exercises and are doing better and feeling more confident than before they took the class. We are offering Memory Screens on the 2nd Wednesday of each month by appointment. Did you know that memory loss is not a “normal” part of aging, so if you find that you are forgetting things more than you used to, then please make an appointment for a screen. As you may know, sometimes all you can depend on in life is change. In that vein, we have had a few staff changes, Kelly Woodward will be the Activity Coordinator. So, if you are looking for trips and travel and other activities, she is your go-to person. We are in the process of looking for a new Center Manager and we have a new receptionist, Rhonda Jaras, starting March 5th! Please stop by and say hello when you are at the Center. Looking forward to seeing you here! Sincerely, Sandy Pastore, MSW

Memory loss can take on different forms. From the misplacing of your belongings to forgetting to eat or forgetting to complete other activities of independent living such as paying bills. And while it is a common concern for many older adults, memory loss is NOT considered to be a part of normal aging. There are many known causes, ranging from Alzheimer’s to depression to vitamin and nutrition deficiencies. So if you or your loved one is having memory concerns, please make an appointment for a free memory screening, with OSC’s Executive Director Sandy Pastore, MSW. It only takes 15 minutes and can indicate if you might benefit from a more comprehensive evaluation. *It is not used to diagnose illness and should not be used in place of physical consultation.

If extreme weather conditions are predicted, you can find out if the Senior Center is closed in any of the following ways:
1. If Oswego School District 308 is closed; so are we. 2. WSPY 107.1 FM- we inform them and you can hear it on the radio 3. Our website – www.oswegoseniorcenter.org 4. Emergency Closing Center website: www.emergencyclosingcenter.com 5. Check closings on bottom of TV screen during news programs. 6. If we have your e-mail we can e-blast the message to you. 7. We also do robo-calling; please be sure we have your most current phone number to contact you.
Be prepared, be safe and take care!
Changes to Meal Day Parking Since the school has moved out, the parking lot and street parking has eased up allowing plenty of parking for senior center participants in the back parking lot. Door 16 will be open for easy access to OSC from the back parking lot. If for some reason it is not open, please call us to come open it, 630-554-5602, or use the sidewalk on Franklin to en-ter through Door 5. We will no longer be using the parking lot across the street. Many thanks to Big Life Church who worked with us to resolve our parking issues when the school was in the
building!

We Want Your SHOES! Your gently worn shoes, that is. If you're like most people, your closet's probably home to multiple pairs of shoes you no longer wear. Here's your chance to dust them off and put them to good use. When you drop off your gently worn shoes, you'll be helping
raise needed funds as wellas people less fortunate throughout the world. World Wear Project makes your shoes available to people living in developing countries such as Cameroon, Mozambique, Tanzania, Guatemala, Chile, Honduras and others.
Please band shoes together in mates or tie laces together.

2018 Step-Up
Campaign! Step-Up to the Challenge, Help OSC reach our Goal!
Please contact Kelly Woodward for additional information on how to set up a monthly commitment, an an-nual one-time contribution or to make a non-cash donation.
Thanks again for all your HELP in keeping our Senior Center successful. OSC is here for you.
Oswego Senior Center is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, donations are tax deductible.
The Oswego Senior Center is kicking off 2018 with our STEP-UP Campaign. This year long donation drive will help OSC continue to provide the needed and wanted services for the senior community.
Help us reach our goal of $25,000 for 2018!
2018 marks our 11th year of providing nutrition, and 9th year of providing education, recreation, exercise, activities, trips, health screen services, SHIP, VITA, resources and referrals to the seniors of Kendall County. All for free or at a low cost. This has been possible because of monies received through fundraising activities, donations and grants from several agencies.
Any donation is greatly appreciated, while we don’t have a membership fee, a $5-$25 donation a month would go a long way. This will help ensure that we can continue to provide the programs and services that help keep our senior community strong, healthy and engaged.
Cash and checks are not the only way to donate to OSC. An unwanted car or boat regardless of operating status, land or a home regardless of condition, estate jewelry and non-digital watches are just some of the ways we can take unwanted items and turn them into a deduction for you and funds for OSC.
Last year, we served over 1,600 seniors ages 55-102 , spanning four decades of individuals and generations of family, friends and community. They attended over 29,000 times
Over 225 individuals ages 9-92 volunteered over 13,000 hours of service, bringing together nine decades of community members to work together in community service.
