Kindergarten have been learning about living things in science. They have learnt about life cycles as they watched hundreds of silk worm eggs hatch and are taking care of the silk worms as they have grown from ny babies to more than double their size. Soon they will start spinning cocoons and then later hatch as moths, which will lay eggs and the life cycle will connue again next spring. Kindergarten are also growing some plants from seeds. They have learnt all about what living things need to survive. They presented their very first projects to the school for their assembly item on Wednesday. The kids did a great job of building a model of an enclosure for their chosen animal, which included all the things their animal would need to stay healthy. Principal’s Report

Newsletter Week 10, Term 3

End of Term

Today is the last day of term 3. Students and teachers return on Monday, 14th October. We hope you have a wonderful, peaceful holiday with lots of relaxation, sleeping and family time. Term four is very busy and we will ensure that as much notice is given for events but please keep watching the calendar and newsletter for dates.

Congratulations Mr Thompson

We would like to congratulate and thank Mr Thompson, our University of Newcastle student teacher on year 4/5. Mr Thompson has now successfully completed his studies and training. He worked with our students with great enthusiasm and dedication and has been an asset to our school. We look forward to having him return next term as a fully qualified casual teacher.

Cyber Safety Workshop

On Tuesday, 22nd October (Week 2), Senior Constable Todd Cremer from Gresford Police will be presenting a workshop to our year 5 and 6 students on Cyber Safety. This will take place at 12.15 in the library. Parents are strongly encouraged to attend as online behaviour and protective software will be covered in the workshop. An invitation with RSVP will come home in week 1. Even if your child is in a lower grade, parents are welcome to attend, but it is only suitable for year 5 and 6 students. We hope to see you there.

Save the Date – First P&C Meeting for Term 4

On Monday, 21st October we will have our first P&C meeting for the term. We hope to see you at 7pm in the library. Don’t forget that children of all ages are welcome to come with you.

Staffing News

Recently I was informed that we have enough enrolments to employ a permanent Assistant Principal. Mr Lowrey has been in this role on a temporary basis for the last three years. This week the position was advertised externally and applications close during the second week of the holidays. The successful candidate will take up this position in 2020. A parent representative nominated by the P&C Association has been appointed to the selection panel along with myself, a teacher representative, and an Assistant Principal from a similar school.

Garden Club

Thank you very much to Brock and his family and Tyler and his family for their generous donations to our garden club. We are still looking for donations of time, plants or seeds (fruit and vegetables are preferred) or garden equipment. The P&C has provided $200 for the purchase of new garden beds, so we are well on the way to a much improved program.

Before and After School Care Survey

The Department of Education wants to hear your feedback on Before and After School Care. When you log in, it will ask you for your postcode so that the information can be collated for our local area. This information will be used to inform decisions about Before and After School Care in our area so it is very important that we have as many people as possible have their say. The survey can be accessed at this address https://forms1.service.nsw.gov.au/basc or through our school Facebook page. If you know of families who have children enrolling next year, please pass this on to them so that we can have all relevant information collated.

Kindergarten Enrolments for 2020

Our kindergarten orientation program will start in term 4. Our orientation program starts on Wednesday, 23rd of October and continues for four weeks. If you know of any families who have students in our zone who are starting school next year, please ask them to contact us to provide their details if they have not done so already.

Uniform Reminder

The uniform policy will be implemented from the beginning of next term. Please remember that the P&C have amended their uniform list from ‘black leather shoes’ to ‘black shoes’. Any black shoes including joggers are acceptable, but coloured shoes are out of uniform. Thank you for ensuring that your child is in uniform.

with thanks,

Mrs Sarah-Jane Hazell
