What is the Voice Survey?

WHAT• Voice Survey is an employee opinion survey that has been

developed to measure work practices.

HOW• It correlates employee opinions with a set of items to predict which

work practices will have the greatest impact on employee satisfaction, performance and CSU outcomes.

WHY• It provides data for CSU to act to improve work practices that will

engage employees and improve performance and sustainability.

• Assesses CSU’s performance across a broad range of HR and general management practices

• Benchmark the performance of various organisational units within CSU

• Compare scores from the CSU 2013 Voice Survey against results from 2010, 2006 and 2003

• Benchmark performance against 27 other universities and over 2500 external organisations

The 2013 survey :

• Will be based on a core set of questions drawn from the Voice Survey and a number of tailored questions specific to CSU

• Comprise a total of:123 agree/disagree questions, 2 open-ended questions19 demographic questions

• Looking to achieve a high response from staff (68% completions for 2010 or 1346 surveys from a targeted population of 1948)

Using the Results• Voice will provide overall results to show areas of strength/areas to

be addressed.

• Vice-Chancellor will identify key priorities for CSU after viewing the results and comparing with 2003,2006 and 2010 surveys

• CSU is committed to reporting back to the employees and engaging them in developing strategies to address results

• Managers are to ensure action is taken in response to the results as part of the planning and improvement process and review progress regularly.

VC Initial Analysis 2010   Highlights

• Job satisfaction has remained consistently high at 80% across the last two surveys. Other indices of Intention to Stay and Organisational Commitment remain stable and once again either equal to or above other universities -

• There is strong confidence in staff responses to the Progress of the University including our overall organisational direction, our focus on results, the mission and values of CSU.

Highlights continued…

• Staff responses about the People at CSU – the talent, teamwork and motivation and initiative of their peers - remains strong and has increased since the last survey.

• Staff report a strong Performance Focus across the University both at a University level and an individual level.

• In relative terms we have significantly improved in the Facilities,

Leadership and Career Opportunities indicators, although there is still work to be done in these areas.
