SPRING IS HERE!

As I write this article there is snow on the ground. Some have said it was a short summer! We pray for favor-able weather as we start the season of planting. In this Easter Season I am reminded of the image which the church uses as the “Body of Christ”. After Jesus’ resurrection and ascension He turned the mission of the gospel over to men and women who were his followers. Christ became the head of the Church, and we his follow-ers, disciples and apprentices became in a sense his hands and feet in the world. Christ continues to work through our two loving congregations who have come together through the power of the Holy Spirit and prayer to share in God’s ministry. Think for a moment of all the ministry that people are active in. Worship: Music, reading lessons, service preparation, service groups, Altar Guild, Dramas, choirs, youth choirs, Youth Leadership Sundays, bulletin prepara-tion and more. Teaching: Sunday School, Confirmation, WELCA studies, Bible Studies, youth. Witness: Outreach to communities, quilting, new members invited, suppers and fellowship events. Service: Mission – LWR, Ronald McDonald House, home visitation, home communions and more. Youth Ministry: Sunday School events, break-fasts, suppers, congregational dinners, Middle School Gatherings, High School Gatherings and the upcoming Youth Mission Trip to Washington D.C. All this, and the many committees, councils and other groups which over-see the ministries of the Churches. The church is a bunch of kids gathering for a youth event. The church is sisters and brothers in Christ, praying and singing, and serving their Lord together. The church is a lady quilting. The church is men meeting to care for the maintenance of the building. The church is men & women meeting for prayer. In short, you are the church. Praise God for two congregations active in sharing and witnessing to the love of God in the Red River Valley. Take time to thank the many, many members who so ably serve. The mission of Christ is alive and well!

God bless each and every one.

Pastor Janet Warnes

WORDS OF SPECIAL THANKS: So much ministry took place in the month of April. Many thanks to all who were part of various mission opportunities: *Delivering Senior Meals *Helping with the Melo Ham Dinner *Helping with the OSL Spring Supper *Planning Sunday School Events *Sunday School Easter Programs *Wonderful & meaningful Holy Week services *Music by the OSL/Melo Choir & Youth Choir *Serving for the three funerals

EDUCATION CORNER: Confirmation Classes Complete the Year in May

Will our children have faith? Confirmation is an important Educational Ministry of our Parish. It means that you as parents care enough to place the Holy Scriptures into the hands of your kids. It means that you want your children to know Christ in a deeper way. It means that you love your kids enough to give them the very best.

The 9th Grade have completed their work for the year and

will be working on their faith statements.

The 7th and 8th Grade meet on May 3 and go on a field trip

to finish up the year. Many thanks to the 7th grade for de-

livering Senior Meals, and to 7th & 8th grade for helping

with the Spring Supper!!

OUTREACH: If you or someone you know would like to join our church

family, please let the Pastor know. We are always very

welcoming of new members to our congregations. We will

receive new members again in June/July.

SPECIAL SERVICES in May: Inspirational Services You Won’t Want to Miss

I looked back at last month’s article and we were enjoying Spring—great temperatures and sunshine. Today it is snowing, we may get to the upper 30s, and no sun. At least we know it will melt soon!

We are meeting on Tuesday, May 2, when we’ll finish tying and packing. We will be ready for the Lutheran World Relief delivery to Thief River Falls on Saturday, the 6th of May. This year we may print bar-codes to put on our boxes

so that we can track where they have gone across the world. It would be fun to know how far they travel.

Also our two snowbirds are back and we wanted them to see what they have been missing! We missed them, also. Welcome back, Karen Larson and Liz Porter. You will get in on our final session for the year.

We have had a fruitful year, thanks to the dedication of our members. You may visit anytime to see what we do. Lunch is about 2:45 to 3:00 pm or so, a great time to come and visit. The welcome mat

is always out. Hope to see all of you next fall. Have a joyful and grateful summer!

Mission Action

Page 8 OSL/Melo Faith Connection

The 2017 LCW Spring Supper is history! It takes many hands to produce a meal for 228 people. This event would-n’t happen without all of the willing donors and workers. Maybe you are a caller for your group, or peeled potatoes, rolled meatballs, baked a cake, served, washed/wiped dishes, set the tables, bussed tables, came for dinner or a take-out, delivered meals, carried out garbage, mashed potatoes, made gravy, ran up and down the stairs with food for take-outs; the list goes on and on. We are most appreciative of EVERYONE who assisted in any way to make this big event happen. The Youth were awesome workers, too! Special thanks to Mick’s of Warren for the donations of coleslaw, ice, and pickles. Mark your calendars for the 4th Wednesday in April of 2018! Co-chairs, Deb Schmidt & Carol Anderson
