Project delivery actions

• Water Corporation is taking steps to ensure the project delivery process has multiple checkpoints for asbestos identification and management on construction sites.

• Safety in design and project management processes have been modified to explicitly reference the Asbestos Asset Registers.

• The standard ‘Special Conditions of Contract’ and HSE Handbook for Contractors has been updated to include specifications for the identification and management of asbestos post possession of site.

Safety Essentials

Questions?

Lou Roberts Water Corporation Manager, Safety Environment and Aboriginal Affairs

Leadership matters

“The quality of safety management by operators is fundamental to safety. No

amount of detailed regulations (or paperwork) can make up for the way safety

is managed.”

Leadership matters

A safety culture starts with leadership. Leadership drives culture. Culture drives behaviour.

Leadership matters

Leaders set the tone and direction of “What’s Important” through visible leadership. The visible actions and behaviours of leaders resonate longer and louder than words.

Leadership matters

Consistent safety leadership comes from organisations that;

• Understand the key components to successful safety leadership,

• Have a strategic approach, and

• Measure leadership to make sure they achieve it.

Leadership matters

Where are you now?

Does your organisation have a structured safety leadership program?

How does your organisation ensure the competency of your leadership team?

What opportunities do you have to improve your safety leadership?

Leadership matters

Where are we heading?

Continuous improvement of Water Corporation’s Safety Leadership program. Creating strong sustainable relationships with organisations willing to spend time and effort to develop safety leaders. Increased focus on leadership capability as part of pre-qualification and project award.
