Case Study TaoLight
• The Company– Founded in 2004, TAO is a Light Sources & Luminaires manufacturer. Our
products are designed, engineered and manufactured at our own 26,000 m2
factory in Shanghai, with production capacity up to 1,000,000 products /
month. The number of employees exceeds 750.
• The Challenge– In the past a few years, TAOLight has developed couple of in-house systems to
manage its different operations and departments.
– The complexity and loose-integrity were discovered recently as the database
increases dramatically.
– Hard to keep maintain these uncoupled systems consistently
– Management wants an all-in-one solution that could replace the old systems.
36
• The Solution– In Pilot Phase (Two Weeks):
– A quick analysis and demonstration to the top management of the company to show the capabilities
of the OpenERP.
– In Phase 1 (Three Months):
– Restructure the database models in order to ease the data migration
– Data migration from old systems, the total number of data migrated exceeds 20,000 items including
all the product, component, Bill of Material and etc.
– Workflow design to fit the operation of the company
– Wizards design to help the user to pick up the system
– Successfully runs the basic use case from Sales Order to Delivery Order
– In Phase 2 (Three month):
– Manufacturing process design and implementation
– Integrate accounting to the system
– Supplier management
– Cost management
• The Result– The work is recognized by the management of the company. The old systems started to fade away
and OpenERP is able to handle the core operation and side features are easily added and
implemented as needed.
