Overall Program Goals and Objectives

The overall goal of the orthopaedic training program is to identify, educate and equip physicians to treat with compassion, wisdom and expertise the musculoskeletal needs of others through direct care, research, education and leadership.

Patient Care

Goals

The orthopaedic resident must be able to provide patient care that is compassionate, appropriate, and effective for the treatment of health programs and the promotion of health.

Objectives

EligibilityfortheOrthopaedicSurgeryResidencyProgramrequiresaminimumofthreeyearsofACGMEmedicaltrainingininternalmedicineoremergencymedicine.IndividualsacceptedforapositioninthefellowshipprogrammustbeU.S.citizen,classifiedasaresidentalien,orholdaJ-1visa.

TheHospital’s312,000-square-foot,10-storyRobertsPavilionhousesstate-of-the-artpatientcarefacilities,including120privatepatientrooms,a30-bedmedical/surgicalintensivecareunit,12technologicallyadvancedoperatingroomsuiteswithhybridimagingcapabilities,anadvancedlaboratoryautomationfacilityanda14,000-square-footEmergencyDepartment.TheEmergencyDepartmentfeatures25beds,dedicatedisolationsuitesandautonomousCTscanningtechnology.TwonewfloorsintheRobertsPavilion,eachwith30privatepatientrooms,openedinAugust2014.ThetwofloorsaredesignedtoservespecificpatientpopulationswithPavilion8servingagrowingadvanced-caresurgerypatientpopulationandPavilion9servingtheCooperHeartInstituteforhospitalizedheartpatients.ThePavilionfeaturesanexpansivelobbyand concourse, a restaurant and coffee shop, health resource center, business center, gift shop and chapel.

ThePavilionalsohousesthe25,000-square-footDr.EdwardD.VinerIntensiveCareUnit.Adesignshowcaseforpatientandfamily-centeredcare,theunitfeatures30private patient rooms equipped with the latest in advanced technology, and allowing 360-degreepatientaccess.Fivepatientroomsarecapableofnegativepressureisolation,andfiveroomshavechamberedisolationalcoves.Inaddition,anenlargedroomwithoperating room caliber lighting is outfitted to perform bedside exploratory laparotomy in patients too unstable for transport to the operating room.

In2013CoopercelebratedtheopeningofMDAndersonCancerCenteratCooper,the$100million,four-story,103,050-square-footcenterlocatedontheCooperHealthSciencesCampusinCamden,dedicatedtocancerprevention,detection,treatmentandresearch.MDAndersonCancerCenteratCooperoffersSouthJersey’sonlydedicatedinpatient,30-bedcancerunitadjacenttothenewcancercenteratCooperUniversityHospital.Thecenterincludesbright,spaciouschemotherapytreatmentareas,patientexam rooms, conference centers and advanced diagnostic and treatment technologies. The designers incorporated an aesthetic approach to healing with abundant natural light,arooftopTranquilityGarden,anilluminatedfloor-to-ceiling“TreeofLife”centerpieceandmorethan100piecesoforiginalartcreatedby71NewJerseyartists.

CooperMedicalSchoolofRowanUniversityMedicalEducationBuildingislocatedontheCooperHealthSciencesCampusonSouthBroadway,betweenBensonandWashingtonStreetsinCamden.Thenew$139millionbuilding,whichopenedinJuly2012,wasdesignedforCMSRU’scurriculumwithspacesandtechnologiestosupportfacultyandstudentsintheireducationalprocess.In2012,CMSRUwelcomedtheclassof2016with50students
