Approximately one third of students attending Ormond receive some form of financial assistance. The Financial Assistance Program, which includes scholarships and bursaries, is available for students in every year level and faculty, and for students from specific backgrounds (i.e. Indigenous, rural).

The combined value of scholarships, prizes and bursaries is over $1,000,000. If you would like to attend Ormond, but feel that financial need may be a problem, you should apply.

In addition to scholarships and bursaries, later year students and graduates can apply for employment and tutorship opportunities at Ormond. A range of positions are advertised within the College each year.

Financial assistance offers are released at the same time as residential offers, so you will be informed of the level of assistance available to you before you formally accept a place at the College.

Your questions answeredWhat financial assistance am I eligible for? To ensure equity, financial assistance is offered on the condition that other means of financial support have been explored and exhausted. Financial assistance applications are means tested and ranked against all other applicants. An ability-to-pay model has been designed to aid the financial assistance committee in making fair decisions.

Any amount received will be credited to your college account in the manner which matches how you have chosen to pay your fees (annual, semester or instalments).

Most scholarships at Ormond are awarded on the basis of financial need and academic merit. In addition to these criteria, the benefactors who created our scholarships often specify other factors for us to consider such as your course, year level or place of origin. The majority of bursaries are based solely on an assessment of financial need.

We are unable to offer financial assistance to students from households with a combined taxable income of over AUD $250,000. In the interests of helping the most deserving candidates, we also reserve the right to decline financial assistance applications where students have a reasonable ability to pay.

How do I apply for assistance?Application forms are available online for future students. We recommend applying at the same time as you apply for college. Returning students apply in October.

The application is a generic document, which you complete and return to us. You will also need to provide supporting documentation, which includes your parents’ most recent tax returns.

We recommend that you apply for assistance well in advance of any deadlines. It is not possible for us to provide support to late applicants once funds have been awarded to other students.

Do I apply for a particular scholarship?No, you apply for financial assistance and we decide which scholarship is allocated to you. There are currently only two scholarships for which we accept specific applications: the Bessie Robson Music Scholarship and the Walter Family Scholarship for Mathematics.

Can I apply for employment?Ormond offers over $300,000 in employment opportunities for students each year. Employment is only offered to students who are not first-year students at Ormond.

having discussions with your parents and

investigating your employment options. As

Entry scholarships for students, in any faculty, who completed their secondary education at an Australian government secondary school, awarded on the basis of academic potential and financial need

Pompey Elliott Rural Scholarship

For students from regional or rural Australia, in need of financial support

Fielding Menzies Scholarship

For students from one of nine selected schools in the Wimmera region of Victoria

Gray Family Tasmanian Scholarship

Awarded to a student/s from Tasmania on the basis of academic excellence and financial need. Preference is given to a student from a government school studying Commerce

Sir Lindsay Ride Scholarship

For a student from Hong Kong or mainland China who has an interest in engaging the Hong Kong and greater China alumni community in the life of the College

Bessie Robson Music Scholarship

Awarded to returning students who will foster fellow-students’ participation in the musical life of the College

Wade Family Scholarship

Awarded to two new students - preferably studying commerce - recognising academic potential and financial need
