HIGH QUALITY CARE - NURTURING, CARING, PREPARING

A Quality Mentor works with each site through-outthe year to provide support and on-going observation.Directors use this information in guiding classroomimprovements. There is evidence of a focus on relationships withchildren, environment, and curriculum provided inclassrooms.  Level 4 status is only maintained by remaining anationally accredited site. All 4 Right Steps sites arecurrently accredited by the National Association forthe Education of Young Children (NAEYC). There area total of 532 criteria that have to be maintained forNAEYC accreditation.

What a PTQ Level 4 means

30 hours of in-service training for new staff 20 hours of in-service training for staff after 1st year.  ½ the staff have to meet the educational requirementsof a Child Development Associate (CDA) or above. All staff must be certified in First Aid/ CPR training

Staff goals that must be achievedGoals that must be achieved, documented and approvedfor all center staff members include:

Staff members attend annual training to remain currentin early education requirements.

Paths to QUALITY™ is Indiana’s statewide rating system for early care and education programs. It is a free resourceto help families make informed decisions and to help early care and education providers improve the quality of theirprograms. Paths to QUALITY (PTQ) is a voluntary system. Each time a program advances to the next level, theydemonstrate a commitment to supporting children’s development, learning, and future success in school and life.   Right Steps Child Development Centers continue to achieve goals for Level 4 PTQ.  All staff members participate inmaking this accomplishment possible. Renewal takes place at each center on a yearly basis.

Since 1969, Right Steps Child Development Centers has been dedicated to the belief that all children deserve quality child care that prepares them for future success. It is our mission to provide and advocate for that high quality child care and early education. In January of 2016, our Board of Directors voted to make Imagination Library an official program of Right Steps Child Development Centers, as a way to widen the scope of service to ALL children in the county, creating a stronger impact on the foundation of learning and literacy needed for children to succeed in learning and in life.

Tippecanoe County Imagination Library is available to all children of our community younger than five years old. Each child enrolled into the program receives a monthly book in the mail until their fifth birthday. These age appropriate books are selected by a national committee of experts in preschool literacy. They are mailed to the child’s home with their name on the book. The books are theirs to keep encouraging within the family an excitement about books and reading with the establishment of a home library that grows through time. here are also materials sent to parents that help them see the importance of their role in reading with their children.  Right Steps considers Tippecanoe County Imagination Library an extension of our dedication to accessible early education. It is a public service that can help more children become our future successful adults.

Tippecanoe County Imagination Library is an affiliate of the Dollywood Foundation's Imagination Library program. This national organization provides us the guidance, materials, and database to administer the program locally with minimal overhead costs.  Tippecanoe County Imagination Library is currently serving more than 1,700 children. More than 1,400 children have graduated from the program, and more register every day who need community support.  As support increases for the program, we hope to serve 5,500 children, over half of our county’s 11,000 population of very young children.   To learn more, visit www.rightstepscdc.org/imagination-library today.

EARLY EDUCATION MATCHING GRANT IS THE START OF SOMETHING NEW

Right Steps began participation with the Early Education Matching Grant (EEMG)program in the 2014-15 school year. The agency began with only five seats in the Older Pre -K room at Right Steps Downtown. It grew to include five more seats at Right Steps Dennis Burton in the 2015-16 school year. By the beginning of the 2016-17 school year, Right Steps received a contract adding five more seats at Right Steps Wabash Landing, totaling 15 EEMG seats at three of our centers.

These funds are administered by Indiana’s Family and Social Services Administration’s Office of Early Childhood and Out of School Learning. The EEMG program is ending, but in 2017 EEMG awardees are to receive similar services for the final year of the program with On My Way Pre-K funding. Right Steps will be grandfathered into the program. On My Way Pre-K began on August 21, 2017 at Right Steps Downtown, Right Steps Dennis Burton and Right Steps Wabash Landing.

"As the journey towards completing my bachelor’s degree comes to a close, I have been doing some reflecting on the process and what an impact this has had on my life. I wanted to extend a huge thank you for all that you have each done as you have played a major role in this incredible milestone for me. Almost 20 years ago, I walked through the doors of Dennis Burton. Tammey Lindblom was my director and she took the chance with allowing me to begin working in this field. I did not realize just how much this would change my life. I have been able to find a career and a love for what I do. The experiences I have had working with the families and children has really helped me to grow as a person and has taught me so much."

A LETTER OF APPRECIATION

"Most of all, I have the opportunity to grow in my education and move forward in life. Although, I was reluctant to pursue the path of education there was always someone there to support me and encourage me to the point that here I am receiving a bachelor’s degree. The best part of this journey was the support system that I was provided. The moral support and encouragement from the staff, my directors, education coordinators, administrative staff, as well as the board’s support has been amazing. Thank you, thank you, and thank you!"   Best, Dawn K.
