VII. The word ships througllOut this Actmentioned, shall be held to mean and includeScbooners, Brigs, Brigantines, Barques, SteamBoats, and all other square rigged Vessels, aswell as Ships; and words importing the singularnumber only shall include the plural number,and words importing the plural number only shallinclude also the singular number, and words inlporting the masculine gender shall extend tofemales, uuless there be something in tbe subjector context repugnant to such construction.

In Act f01' difraying the Cost of a Light-House on Ped-ra Branca,WHEREAS it has been deemed expedient, fo~the safety and guidanceofShips navigating the China Seas, to build a Light-House on the IslandRock called Pedra Brauca, situated at the Eastern entrance of the StraitsofSingapore; And whereas certain. sums of m.oney were subscribed byprivate individuals for that purpose, but the same were insufficient todefray the expense of building such Light-House; .And wherea~ the
