Installation timeThe installation time is approx. 0.5 hours for the the M Performance rear diffuser, approx. 1.0 hour for the M Performance Carbon front splitter and approx. 0.5 hours for the M Performance roof edge spoiler. These times may vary depending on the condition of the car and the equipment in it.

Important informationThe M Performance Carbon front splitter may only be installed in conjunction with the M Performance rear spoiler (F10) or the M Performance roof edge spoiler (F11) (for part numbers

and instructions, see EPC).

These installation instructions are primarily designed for use within the BMW dealership organisation and by authorised BMW service companies.

In any event, the target group for these installation instructions is specialist personnel trained on BMW cars with the appropriate specialist knowledge.

All work must be completed using the latest BMW repair manuals, wiring diagrams, servicing manuals and work instructions, in a rational order, using the prescribed tools (special tools) and observing current health and safety regulations.

If you experience installation or function problems, restrict troubleshooting to approx. 0.5 hours for mechanical work and 1.0 hour for electrical work.

To avoid unnecessary extra work and/or costs, send an inquiry straight away to the technical parts support team via the Aftersales Assistance Portal (ASAP).

Quote the following information:

- Chassis number,

- retrofit kit part number,

- a detailed description of the problem,

- any work already carried out.

Do not archive the hard copy of these installation instructions since daily updates are provided via ASAP!

The ambient temperature for bonding and drying must be no lower than 15 °C and no higher than 35 °C.

Only for Carbon front splitter and M Performance roof edge spoiler (F 11):The car may be driven after approx. 24 hours and may be taken through a car wash after 48 hours.

Information to be provided to the customerOnce the M Performance front splitter has been installed, the ramp angle and floor clearance are reduced.

The M Performance Carbon front splitter may only be installed in conjunction with the M Performance rear spoiler (for part number and instructions, see EPC).

The BMW M Performance front splitter reduces the car's ground clearance and also the overhang angle at the front. The BMW M Performance front splitter must be checked at

regular intervals for damage caused by collisions and, in the event of any such damage, replaced by trained specialist personnel.

Painting instructionsCheck that all the parts fit accurately on the car before painting them. Primed parts must be pre-treated accordingly before painting.

To ensure correct painting, the EBA must be provided to the painter.

The BMW painting instructions must be observed (see ISTA No. 99 00 ...).

Ordering instructionsBetalink (part number 82 69 9 408 866) must also be ordered for the installation of the Carbon front splitter and roof edge spoiler (F 11).

The following components must be removed first of all ISTA No.

Rear diffuser (keep the expanding rivets, they will be required for later installation) 51 12 ...

If the screws (1) for the brackets of the swapped-out engine oil cooler are present, there must be drill

holes present in the front splitter at these points for ac-cessibility to the screws underneath.

Only for front splitters from change index 03

Drill holes are present.

Only for front splitters from change index 01/02

Drill holes must be created.

Wear personal safety equipment when working with carbon.

Following the diagram, stick a suitable strip of fabric (reinforced tape) (1) on the inside of front splitter D from the underside of the drill hole (2) to the top side of the drill hole (3) and beyond (see illustration).

Mark position (4) with the specified dimensions.

Pre-drill a hole from the inside outwards at position (4) using a 6 mm diameter drill bit.

On the underside of front splitter D, stick a suitable strip of fabric (reinforced tape) over the drill hole (5) to prevent fraying of the carbon while drilling.

Enlarge the drill hole (5) using a conical drill to a diameter of 24 mm from the outside inwards. Perform the drilling work in cycles and deburr from the opposite side.

Then proceed accordingly on the right-hand side.

Then place front splitter D on the apron and check that the screws for the brackets of the swapped-out engine oil cooler can easily be removed through the drill holes.

If necessary, enlarge the drill hole to a size that allows the screws for the brackets of the swapped-out engine oil cooler to be removed easily.

Paint the unmasked areas in the colour of the car.

Before painting, mask the marked areas (1) of M Performance rear diffuser A using masking tape and masking tape B and using the areas (2) provided.

Place M Performance rear diffuser A on from the rear. The cover (1) must be below M Performance rear diffuser A.

M Performance rear diffuser A must be inserted on both sides into the guide (2) on the rear apron.

Clips C must be inserted on both sides from the rear onto the lugs of M Performance rear diffuser A and pressed into place using suitable tools.

Screw M Performance rear diffuser A firmly into position using the existing five expanding rivets (1).

Only for change index 01:Remove the four outer screws (1) and loosen the two inner screws (2), but do not remove them.

Only for change index 02:Remove the four outer screws (1) and two inner screws (2).

For all cars:When drilling down to the drilling depth, take care not to damage any parts/the metal support under-

neath.

Position M Performance Carbon front splitter D and align. Drill a hole (1) through the front apron using a 6 mm drill bit.

Only for change index 02:Drill a hole (2) through the front apron using a 6 mm drill bit.

For all cars:The hole (1) must match the hole in installation plate E/E1.

Only for change index 01:Push installation plate E, with the glued nuts facing up-wards, under the front apron (2). Tighten the screws (3).

Only for change index 02:Pull the front apron (2) downwards, slide installation plates E1, with the sticky nut upwards, under the front apron (2) and place the screw of installation plate E1 in the hole (4). Insert and tighten the screws (3).

Only for cars in light colours:Completely remove the cover (1).

7. Installing the M Performance Carbon front splitter

Clean the bonding surface thoroughly before gluing. It must be completely dry, clean and free from dust

and grease.

Remove the backing film from sticker H and align and stick on as shown up to the end of the rear edge.

For all cars:Clean the bonding surface thoroughly before gluing. It must be completely dry, clean and free from dust

and grease.

Fit the entire cover (1). Clean the front apron (2) all over and thoroughly.

Clean the bonding surface thoroughly before gluing. It must be completely dry, clean and free from dust

and grease.

Clean the areas (1) on M Performance Carbon front splitter D thoroughly. Remove the two ends (2) of the adhesive strip (3) and fold them outwards as shown.

Only for change index 01:Clean the bonding surface thoroughly before gluing. It must be completely dry, clean and free from dust

and grease.

Clean the area on the underside of the front apron around the hole (1) thoroughly.

7. Installing the M Performance Carbon front splitter

Clean the bonding surface thoroughly before gluing. It must be completely dry, clean and free from dust

and grease.

Clean the surface (1) around the hole on the top of M Performance Carbon front splitter D thoroughly.

Generously apply Betalink I on the top of M Performance Carbon front splitter D as shown.

Apply sufficient Betalink I so that, when the spoiler is pressed on later, the entire area (1) is filled up to the

external edges.

For all cars:Generously apply Betalink I along the edges (1) and surface (2) on the inside of M Performance Carbon front splitter D as shown.

Apply sufficient Betalink I so that, when the spoiler is pressed on later, the entire area (2) is filled up to the

external edges.

The hole (1) in the front apron (2) must match the hole in installation plate E/E1.

Check the position of installation plate E/E1.

7. Installing the M Performance Carbon front splitter

Position M Performance Carbon front splitter D on the front apron, align it and press it firmly into place. Fit the four hexagon screws F (for torque values, see ISTA). Insert screw G into the hole in installation plate E/E1 and tighten to a torque of 2.7 Nm.

Only for change index 02:Also place the washer J and nut K on the screw of installation plate E1 and tighten to a torque of 3 Nm.

For all cars:Remove any Betalink that oozes out immediately.

Remove the backing film (1) from the adhesive strips. Press M Performance Carbon front splitter D firmly into place.

Press the adhesive strip onto the front apron with a pressure of 50 N/5 kg.

Fill any tolerance adjustment gaps with Beta-link.

Secure M Performance Carbon front splitter D using a suitable adhesive strip (1) as shown.

Do not remove the adhesive strips for around 24 hours and do not move the car.

8. Installing the M Performance roof edge spoiler (F 11)

M Performance roof edge spoiler L can be installed as matt black or painted in line with the customer's

wishes. When painting, note the painting instructions on page 2.The surface of the vehicle (1) must be completely dry, clean and free from dust or grease.

Clean the car surface (1) with suitable agents.

Place M Performance roof edge spoiler L on the edge (1) until you can feel it is in the correct position.

Average out M Performance roof edge spoiler L between the edges (2). Make a mark using a suitable tool on the outer edge (3).

Place adhesive sticker N in the centre between the third brake light (4) and the left outer edge (3) below M Performance roof edge spoiler L. Then carry out this same step accordingly on the right-hand side.

Stick adhesive sticker N in the middle above M Performance roof edge spoiler L.

The grooves (1) and (2) on M Performance roof edge spoiler L must be completely dry, clean and

free from dust or grease.

Remove the painting cover strip (3) from grooves (1) and (2).

Sand and clean grooves (1) and (2) using suitable tools.

Then apply Betalink M only to grooves (1) and (2) of M Performance roof edge spoiler L as shown.

Place M Performance roof edge spoiler L on adhesive stickers N and the markings shown (1) and press firmly into place so that any excess Betalink can escape.

Remove any Betalink that oozes out immediately.

8. Installing the M Performance roof edge spoiler (F 11)

Secure M Performance roof edge spoiler L using a suitable adhesive strip (1) as shown.

Remove any Betalink that oozes out immediately.

Secure M Performance roof edge spoiler L down-wards and slightly forwards, so that the size of the

gap to the tailgate is minimised.

Secure M Performance roof edge spoiler L using a suit-able adhesive strip (1) from the inside out with as many adhesive strips (1) as necessary and immediately remove any Betalink that oozes out. Starting with the adhesive strip (1) on the surface (2), glue along the contour of M Performance roof edge spoiler L to the surface (3) of the tailgate.

Remove any Betalink that oozes out around M Performance roof edge spoiler L.

Remove adhesive sticker N and any Betalink that oozes out underneath it.

Unfasten the adhesive strip (1) in order to remove any Betalink that oozes out underneath it and clean the sur-face. Then stick on a new adhesive strip (1) as described previously. Repeat this step for each adhesive strip until all of the escaping Betalink has been removed.

Do not remove the adhesive strips for around 24 hours and do not move the car.
