The College of Asia Pacific Studies is grounded in an integrated

understanding of the politics, economics, societies, cultures, and other

dimensions of the Asia Pacific region. Students develop both fundamental

and specialized knowledge about international society, environment and

development, and tourism, enhance their language proficiency,

communication skills, and capacity to solve problems, and learn to

comprehend the diverse range of problems confronting the Asia Pacific.

The ultimate aim of the College is to produce individuals capable of

contributing to sustainable development and mutual coexistence within the

region.

Investigate the best way of international cooperation towards

Sustainable Development To think about the sustainable development in Asia and Pacific Region,

economic, social and environmental dimensions should be considered. Global

issues such as inequity due to poverty and gender, climate change and

biodiversity cannot be solved by a single country. At “Environment &

Development” cluster, we will investigate the sustainable development from

multiple points of views in both economic and social development and

environment.

Phuc: Akari and me were in the same Aikido club. We had a lot commons in the way of thinking and the concept of living. We were from different country, talking different language, spent childhood in different culture. That opened my mind a lot since we started sharing home together. I learned so much from her, especially how to accept people as they are without judging their words or appearance.

• 「以不変応万変」

– 中国では「以不変応万変」ということわざがあります。これを日本語で訳すと「不変を以て万変に応ず」となります。変化が加速する現代社会を生きるためには、あらゆる状況やニーズに対応できる「不変」のものを身につける必要があります。これは考える力であり、行動する力であります。APUでこの「不変」を習得してください。

• An old Chinese proverb

– There is an old Chinese proverb saying that "以不变应万变", which literally means “meet all changes by remaining unchanged”. We live in a world where things are changing so rapidly that virtually nobody could possibly follow all of them. The wise way is to acquire an “all-purpose ability” that enables you to cope with all kinds of situation or need. That is the ability to think and act on your own. I hope you will master this "all-purpose ability" at APU.
