Goals of the Pediatric ClerkshipThe goals of this core curriculum in Pediatrics are to foster:
Acquisition of basic knowledge of growth and development (physical, physiologic and psychosocial) and of its clinical application from birth through adolescence.
Development of communication skills that will facilitate the clinical interaction with children, adolescents and their families and thus ensure that complete, accurate data are obtained.
Development of competency in the physical examination of infants, children and adolescents.
Acquisition of the knowledge necessary for the diagnosis and initial management of common acute and chronic illnesses.
Development of clinical problem-solving skills. An understanding of the influence of family, community and society on the child in health
and disease. Development of strategies for health promotion as well as disease and injury prevention. Development of the attitudes and professional behaviors appropriate for clinical practice. An understanding of the approach of pediatricians to the health care of children and
adolescents.

Required Teaching SessionsInpatient Rotation
7am Inpatient rounds Monday thru Wednesday. Grand Rounds on Thursday am Professor Rounds on Mondays at noon Toxicology and CARE lectures on Tuesdays, Wednesday noon conference. Mandatory Teaching Sessions for students on 1st, 2nd,
3rd Wednesdays and the 4th Monday Clipp cases..www.clippcases.org7 cases for 1 month.

Call Policy
Total number of calls 5 Calls start at 4pm at check out with your team At least 2 students from different teams should be on call
each night Call ends at 10 pm. Parking available for students on call ONLY. Any questions on call please inform the senior resident Calls schedule to be made by all students at orientation,
return the call schedule back to Dr. Talib or the CHIEF RESIDENT

Attendance Policy
Students are expected to report to every assignment on their schedule.
Excused Absence Interviews; Complete the Clerkship Excuse form. Meetings; Officer or Presenting at the meeting Illness
Inform Dr Talib, Senior Resident and the Attending via email or pager of your absence and provide a doctors excuse.
Absences less then five day will need to be made up. If five or more days are missed in a month, this will result in repeating the entire clerkship or that portion of the clerkship.

Clerkship Student Evaluation The student’s final evaluation will represent a
composite of several items. These include: Written evaluations of the student’s performance on the
inpatient portion of the clerkship. Written evaluations of the student’s performance on the
outpatient portion of the clerkship. Written evaluation of the student’s performance on the
nursery portion of the clerkship. Performance on the chairman’s examinations. Written evaluation of the student’s performance of the
observed history and physical.

Professional Competency Evaluation Any concern on the Professional
Competency Evaluation will automatically mean you fail the rotation and will generate a report to the honor council at the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Medicine.

Grades
Pass score of at least 60 on their Chairman's exams, with an average
of 2.0 on their inpatient and outpatient and nursery evaluations. High Pass
score of 60 or above on the Chairman's exam and an average score of 3.0 and above from both inpatient and outpatient and nursery evaluations.
Honors score of 75 or above on the Chairman’s exam and an average of
3.0 on both inpatient and outpatient and nursery evaluations with an indication to work above and beyond the amount necessary to get by, e.g. research a topic and present to your inpatient team.
