STUDENTS WILL BE ASSIGNED THE FOLLOWING GROUP WORK :
1. Please define free speech
2. Please provide an example of what free speech looks like in contemporary American
3. Are the following examples depicting free speech or illegal activities.
Schenck vs. U.S. “clear and present danger”
Texas vs. Johnson “flag burning”
Tinker vs. DeMoines, Iowa “black arm band protest”
• The following class there will be a teacher led discussion on free speech and its applications
• Then students will be assigned a research paper on current supreme court cases that deal with issues of free speech and present that information to the small groups with powerpoint presentations and then engage in a debate style discussion.
