There was strong interest in organizing forums for: SQUID-2 and data processing issues U-Pb dating of high-uranium zircon We will build these topics into the schedule depending on the abstracts submitted and the availability of key people in those topics to give review presentations and chair discussions. We encourage you to submit any presentations related to the above topics along with general technical and scientific presentations. We also welcome any other topics to be discussed in the workshop. Please contact [email protected] , if you are interested in presenting or leading discussions on these or other topics. PRESENTATION OPTIONS There will be three options for presentations: 1. Oral presentation Twenty (20) minutes, including five (5) minutes for questions. Preference will be given to talks focusing on SHRIMP-specific issues such as instrument behavior, method development and novel applications. Abstract (maximum of 6 pages ) required. 2 . Poster Space will be provided for posters which present any technical and scientific topics related to SHRIMP analysis. Size specifications for SHRIMP Workshop posters are: A0 (841mm wide x 1189mm high). Abstract ( maximum of 6 pages ) required. 3 . Lightning talk A brief five (5) minute talk on one idea. For example: a quick report on data just acquired, some unexpected results, a negative result of an experiment to warn others about, a new concept or a call to action. Provide a brief outline (the same format as oral/poster abstracts, but restricted to maximum of 1 page ). ABSTRACT SUBMISSION Abstracts, which can include figures and/or tables, should be submitted to [email protected] by email attachment in Microsoft Word .docx or .doc format and be a maximum of 6 pages (for oral/poster presentations) or a maximum of 1 page (for lightning talks). Please indicate your preferred presentation methods (oral , poster , or lightening talk ). Please note that abstracts will be printed in black and white for hard copy and in color for electronic copy. 2016 SHRIMP WORKSHOPThe following process will occur to decide on the venue for the 2016 SHRIMP Workshop:1. All labs interested in hosting the 2016 workshop submit a letter of intent to the 2014 Workshop organizers

before 31 July 2014. Workshop participants will be informed of the proposals prior to the workshop.2. A business meeting will be convened at the workshop and submitting labs will have ten minutes to present

their proposal.3. Each lab will have one vote either by a representative or a nominated proxy at the meeting.

FIELD EXCURSIONS

The Tateyama Kurobe Alpine RouteThe Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route is a unique and spectacular route between Omachi, Nagano Prefecture and Tateyama, Toyama Prefecture, Japan, which uses 7 different public transports with 5 different modes, namely funicular, bus, trolleybus, aerial tramway, and walking. The route is 37km in length and the vertical interval is 1,975m. We will take the route on the way to Kurobe from Tachikawa. The Kurobe GorgeThe Kurobe Gorge is among the most spectacular places in the Hida Mountains and Northern Alps which are one of the finest areas of natural beauty in Japan. The Kurobe Gorge, which is carved by the Kurobe River as it descends over 2500m in 86km from its headwaters in the Hida Mountains to Toyama Bay, is a deep and steep sided canyon with breathtaking cliffs dropping straight into the Kurobe River. Through this magnificent scenery, Kurobe Gorge Railway, nicknamed "Kurobe Gorge train", carves a surprising path and provides you with 80 minutes of sightseeing as covers 20.1km. In the field excursions, we will go to the Babadani Hot Springs area through the Kurobe Gorge train. This area is type locality of the world youngest exposed granite, Kurobegawa granite.
