Four-run eighth lifts River Cats to come-from-behind "W"

Jones hits 10th homer, his third in his last three games in 6-4 win

Things looked bleak for the Sacramento River Cats (26-40) as they headed into the eighth inning

trailing 4-1 tonight at Cashman Field, but a four-run inning helped lift Sacramento to a 6-4,

come-from-behind win over the Las Vegas 51s (27-41).

Sacramento had just five hits in the game entering the eighth inning before Juan

Ciriaco opened the frame with a leadoff single. Orlando Calixte followed with an RBI triple

before scoring on Conor Gillaspie's base hit. Ryder Jones was next, blasting a two-run home

run just inside the foul pole in right to give Sacramento a 5-4 lead. The River Cats added

another run in the ninth when Calixte, who had just hit his second triple of the night, scored on

a wild pitch.

For Jones, the home run was his third in his last three games. He also added an RBI-double in

the first inning, finishing the night with three RBI. His 10 home runs lead the club while his 30

RBI are second behind fellow third baseman Jae-Gyun Hwang (39).

The River Cats return home tomorrow night as they welcome the Albuquerque Isotopes to

Raley Field. Joan Gregorio (3-4, 3.26) is tentatively scheduled to take the mound for

Sacramento. The Isotopes will go with left-hander Harrison Musgrave (1-1, 7.30). First pitch is

set for 7:05 p.m. and the game can be heard live online at rivercats.com and on the air on ESPN

Postgame Notes

Jones in June: Ryder Jones was 2-for-4 with a home run, double, three RBI, and a walk in

tonight's game…in the month of June, Jones is hitting .348 (16-for-46) with four doubles, a

triple, five home runs, and 11 RBI…has also scored eight runs while posting a 10:11 walk-to-

strikeout ratio.

Cycle Watch: Orlando Calixte finished a home run shy of the second cycle in River Cats history,

going 4-for-5 with two triples, a double, a single, an RBI, and three runs scored…current

Cincinnati Reds outfielder Adam Duvall is the only River Cats player to hit for a cycle in

franchise history (4/17/15 at Salt Lake).

Come From Behind: Tonight's come-from-behind win was Sacramento's fourth win this season

when trailing after seven innings...have won three times when trailing after eight innings, the

second most in the league.

Still Too Many E's: The River Cats committed two more errors in tonight's game…committed 10

errors over the four game series…their 61 errors are tied for the fourth most in the Pacific Coast

League.

Harrisburg's Home Runs Hurt Squirrels In Opener

Heathcott Hits 11th Home Run in Loss

Harrisburg, PA - The Harrisburg Senators (27-38) swatted three home runs on Friday, taking

game one of the series over Richmond by a final of 9-6 at FNB Field. Richmond (27-39) out-hit

Harrisburg 13-12 and had runners on base in every inning in the defeat. Slade

Heathcott smacked his 11th home run of the season and had three hits in the contest.

Richmond has lost five straight and will play game two of the series on Saturday at 6 p.m.

Johnson encountered some more difficulty in the second inning, with Richmond-native Alec

Kellerreaching on a one-out base hit. Osvaldo Abreu then drilled a two-run homer over the left

center field wall to give Harrisburg a 3-0 lead. It was the third home run of the season for Abreu

and the sixth allowed by Johnson.

The Squirrels returned fire with a two-run shot of their own in the third inning. Myles

Schroderreached base on a hit by pitch and Slade Heathcott stepped up and drilled a home run

over the right field wall to pull to within a run, 3-2. It was the team-leading 11th homer of the

season for the veteran Heathott.

Harrisburg homered two more times in the third inning to forge ahead, 6-2. Marmolejos drilled

a solo shot to begin the inning and Raudy Read added a deep two-run blast.

Despite the homers, Johnson stuck around and lasted 5.1 innings in the defeat. The righty

allowed eight runs on eight hits. He struck to six and walked four. Christian Jones entered with

runners on in the sixth and allowed an inherited runner and a run of his own over 0.2 innings.

He used 32 pitches in the effort.

The Squirrels continued to attack throughout the night. C.J. Hinojosa gathered four hits,

including an RBI double in the ninth inning.

Carlos Alvarado tossed the seventh inning and Ryan Halstead pitched the eighth for

Richmond.

The Flying Squirrels continue a brief three game road trip in Harrisburg on Saturday night at 6

p.m. RHP Dan Slania (1-0, 1.50) is scheduled to make the start against Senators RHP John

Simms (2-4, 4.05) . Richmond will return to The Diamond on Tuesday, June 20 against the

Rawhide Edge Giants, Win Streak Snapped At Four

San Jose suffers 4-3 loss in series opener

SAN JOSE, CA - The San Jose Giants saw their season-high winning streak snapped at four

games with a 4-3 loss to the Visalia Rawhide on Thursday evening at Municipal Stadium. In the

opener of a four-game series, Visalia starting pitcher Bo Takahashi pitched into the ninth inning

before the Rawhide held off a late Giants rally to secure the win. San Jose (30-37) lost for the

12th time in their last 16 home games.

Aramis Garcia (2-for-4, HR, 2 RBI) had two hits, including his eighth home run of the season, to

lead the Giants offensively in defeat. Bryan Reynolds (2-for-3, 2B) and Daniel Carbonell (2-for-

3) added two hits apiece.

Takahashi (5-2) earned the win for Visalia with a stellar performance on the mound. The right-

hander worked eight-plus innings yielding three runs (all earned) and six hits. Takahashi walked

three and struck out two during his 86-pitch outing. Bud Jeter recorded the final three outs of

the game for his league-leading 16th save of the season.

San Jose jumped out to a 2-0 lead on Garcia's two-run home run in the bottom of the first. With

two outs, Reynolds blooped a single down the left field line before Garcia stepped to the plate

and crushed the first pitch of his at-bat over the fence in left for a two-run homer.

Grant Watson started on the mound for the Giants and would run into trouble in the top of the

second. Marty Herum led off the inning with a single before Austin Byler doubled to deep right

putting runners on second and third. A Henry Castillo RBI groundout then scored the first

Rawhide run of the night before Matt Jones singled home Byler to tie the game 2-2.

Watson settled down to throw scoreless third and fourth innings inducing double plays in each

frame to keep the game tied. Visalia though would take their first lead of the contest with a

two-run top of the fifth against the San Jose starter. After Watson retired the first two batters

of the inning, Sergio Alcantara and Jason Morozowski delivered back-to-back singles. Herum

was up next and he lofted a high fly ball into the right field corner for a double. The hit scored

both Alcantara and Morozowski to give the Rawhide a 4-2 lead.

Meanwhile, Takahashi didn't allow another hit after the Garcia home run until Carbonell's

leadoff infield single in the bottom of the fifth. Carbonell, however, was thrown out at second

attempting to steal to end the inning. In the sixth, Reynolds walked with two outs, but Garcia

followed by grounding out.

Still down 4-2, The Giants threatened against Takahashi in the bottom of the seventh. Heath

Quinnwalked to begin the inning before Dillon Dobson flied out. Carbonell then blooped a

single into shallow right to advance Quinn to third. However on the play, Carbonell rounded

first base too far and was thrown out for the second out of the inning. T.J. Bennett then lined

out softly to shortstop to retire the side. Takahashi breezed through a 1-2-3 bottom of the

eighth to maintain the two-run Visalia cushion.

In the bottom of the ninth, Reynolds knocked Takahashi out of the game with a leadoff double

down the right field line. Jeter then summoned from the bullpen, but he promptly allowed a

single to Garcia advancing Reynolds to third. Quinn was up next and he worked a full count, but

was ultimately called out on strikes. Dobson followed with a sacrifice fly to plate Reynolds

bringing San Jose to within 4-3 although Garcia, the potential tying run, remained at first.

Carbonell then flied out to center to end the game.

Watson (0-1) suffered the loss for the Giants after surrendering four runs (all earned) on a

career-high 10 hits in five innings. He struck out four and walked none.

Notes

* Thursday was the opener of a four-game series that will close out the first half.

* San Jose fell to a league-worst 4-11 in one-run games. The Giants have lost their last four one-

run games (the last three have come to Visalia).

* Visalia out-hit San Jose 13-7.

* The Rawhide were 4-for-15 with runners in scoring position compared to 1-for-3 for the

Giants.

* Garcia is tied for fourth in the California League with 44 RBI's.

* Takahashi has won five consecutive starts (1.89 ERA).

* Herum's go-ahead hit was his league-leading 21st double of the season.

* Connor Kaden (2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 4 SO), Michael Cederoth (1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 1 SO)

and David Owen (1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 SO) combined for four scoreless innings of relief for San

Jose.

* The Giants were held to three or fewer runs for the 19th time in 32 home games this season

(10-22 overall home record).

On Deck

The Giants and Rawhide continue their four-game series on Friday evening with first pitch at

Municipal Stadium scheduled for 7:00 PM. Jake McCasland (2-6, 5.75 ERA) is slated to start on

the mound for San Jose while Visalia is expected to counter with Ryan Atkinson (3-3, 3.16 ERA).

It's Harry Potter Night at the ballpark and a spectacular fireworks show will follow the game. As
