Food waste digester leaflet and order form made available via several residents magazines and each partner authority’s public facing buildings.

“I help with two local environmental groups that encourage people to reduce waste by recycling, reusing, repairing and upcycling items. We have been very pleased to have the support of Cumbria County Council’s Waste Prevention Team. Their reduced price food waste digesters and composters have proved popular with households looking to reduce their waste and make the most of any food scraps.

Together with Penrith Action for Community Transition (PACT) we have been promoting Grow-your-own fruit and veg for households and community gardens. The Waste Prevention Team have helped at several stalls we have run. Working together has increased our reach and shown that everyone can help themselves and the planet.”

Over 30 roadshows and events were held throughout Cumbria by the partnership’s waste officers or independently by local community groups.

My name is Joanna, I’m pretty green and I love my Green Johanna. I’m a really keen gardener and like nothing better than pulling on the old wellies, grabbing my trowel and heading to the allotment. I like growing everything really–flowers, fruits and veggies. I’m really passionate about protecting our planet too so the Green Johanna is absolutely perfect. I would call it the Rolls Royce of Compost bins. It takes all of my kitchen waste and turns it into a really nutritious compost –some of the best I’ve made. Of course it accepts the peelings and cuttings just like a standard compost bin, but I can also put any other leftover food in there too–bread, pasta, rice, meat, cheese, even old bones. Its incredible really. It works best in a shady part of the garden so I have mine just behind my garden shed. It’s brilliant! An endless supply of compost for my garden and an environmentally friendly way to dispose of all my food waste. I’m supporting #TeamJohanna!
