GETTING STARTED!

•WHAT DO YOU KNOW ABOUT

BODY ORGAN SYSTEM?

Name all possible systems that you know

*DO NOT LOOK IT UP!*

Page 3: ORGAN SYSTEM

IntegumentaryDenotation: Forms the external body covering; protects deeper tissue from injury; synthesizes vitamin D; location of cutaneous (pain, pressure, etc.) receptors, sweat and oil glands.

Connotation:

•Simply known as "skin"

Page 4: ORGAN SYSTEM

SkeletalDenotation: Protects and supports body organs; provides a framework the muscles use to cause movement; blood cells are formed within bones; stores minerals

Connotation

•Obviously skeleton/bone

Page 5: ORGAN SYSTEM

MuscularDenotation:

Allows manipulation of the environment locomotion, and facial expression; maintains posture; produces heat

Connotation

•Basically muscles (sexiest body system)....

*He's so HAWT!* --->

Page 6: ORGAN SYSTEM

NervousDenotation:

Fast-acting control system of the body; responds to internal and external changes by activating appropriate muscles and glands

Connatation

•Nervous = nerves (doesn't take a genious to figure this out)•The brain also play a MAJOR part with the nervous system

*Now don't get too excited cuz we are not going into details about this now!*

Page 7: ORGAN SYSTEM

EndocrineDenotation:

Glands secrete hormones that regulate processes such as growth, reproduction, and nutrient use (metabolism) by body cells

Connotation

•System that's incharge of the body's chemical regulations and productions

*DID YOU KNOW THATMOST PEOPLE USE THE TERM "METABOLISM"INCORRECTLY?!*

Page 8: ORGAN SYSTEM

CardiovascularDenotation:

Blood vessels transport blood, which carries oxygen, carbon dioxide, nutrients, wastes, etc.; the heart pumps blood

Connotation

•The denotation says it all! Basically a system consists of millions of blood vessels which help transport products throughout the body

*Sucky connotation.....e.e*

Page 9: ORGAN SYSTEM

LymphaticDenotation:

Picks up fluid from blood vessels and returns it to blood; disposes of debris in the lymphatic stream; houses white blood cells involved in immunity

Connotation

•Associate with lymph nodes•Part of immune system•Located in the main sweat glands region

Any probs with this system = you will not be immune to sickness/disease...*Ever heard of Bubonic Plague?*

Page 10: ORGAN SYSTEM

RespiratoryDenotation:

Keeps blood constantly supplied with oxygen and removes carbon dioxide; the gaseous exchanges occue through the walls of the air sacs of the lungs

Connotation

•Air system?•Responsible for O intake and the release of CO2

*Did you know that if you are unable to breathe through the mouth and nose... just poke a hole in your throat and you'll live!*

Page 11: ORGAN SYSTEM

DigestiveDenotation:

Breaks food down into absorbable units that enter the blood for distribution to body cells; indigestible foodstuff are eliminated as feces

Connotation

•System that breaks down food (different chemical reactions & acids are responsible for this) and discard food that cannot be digested through excretion

*Did you know a cow have 5 stomachs?*

Page 12: ORGAN SYSTEM

UrinaryDenotation:

Eliminates nitrogenous wastes from the body; regulates water, electrolyte, and acid-base balance of the blood

Connotation

•Yes, urine.....

*Is purified urine drinkable?*

Page 13: ORGAN SYSTEM

Reproduction(M/F)Denotation:

It's 1 long paragraph.... this is self explanatory

Connotation

•System design to reproduce•Males & Females have differ reproduction system•Relates with urinary system

*Need better visual? Watch/check out a vid on how seahorses mate*
