Dear Colleague,
I am writing to call your attention to the launch of the new, redesigned Organic Syntheseswebsite. Our new journal website has a number of impressive features that make it extremelyeasy to read articles and to search the database of over 5000 detailed and checked proceduresfor the synthesis of organic compounds. Organic Synthesescontinues to be open access andcan be found at the same URL as previously, www.orgsyn.org.
My colleagues and I on the Board of Editors hope that you will encourage the members ofyour lab to visit the new site. Our own coworkers have found the site to be an exceptionallyvaluable resource for locating information on how to carry out a wide range of syntheticreactions. Interested in advice on how to perform a Swern oxidation? A keyword search fromthe homepage quickly identifies seven Org Synarticles that provide detailed procedures for thismethod, including how to purify reagents, how to conduct the workup, and full characterizationdata including reproductions of spectra. In short, Org Synis a goldmine of practical and reliableinformation for synthetic chemists at all levels of experience.
In these days of concern about the reproducibility of published science, it is worth notingthat Organic Syntheses is possibly unique in that all procedures and characterization data arechecked for reproducibility in the laboratory of a member of the Board of Editors. The Boardwelcomes submissions of articles that illustrate a general synthetic method (either new or
previously reported), or that describe the preparation of a specific organic compound of interest.Details on the preparation of articles and an article template are available on the website. Notethat a new and more professional design for Organic Synthesesarticles was introduced effectivewith the current volume. Authors may choose to first submit a proposal for an article forreview by the Editorial Board, but this is not required.
