HISTORY of Oregon InC:•Established in 2005 by Oregon Legislature to create & •oversee state economic competitiveness strategy•Council members include 40+ leaders from Oregon industries, VCs, higher ed. and government and serves as“umbrella group”
•Charged to develop an innovation plan each biennium to guide governor & legislature on policies and investments to grow Oregon’s economy
•Bi-annually request funds for initiatives/projects from state lottery funds
•2011-2013 Oregon InC funded initiatives include: Oregon Nanoscience and Microtechnologies Institute (ONAMI)Oregon Translational Research and Development Institute (OTRADI)Oregon Built Environment and Sustainable Technologies (Oregon BEST)Other initiatives in Wave Energy, Electric Vehicles, Wave Energy
On track to create/retain over 1,100 jobs and incubate 15 new companies
In less than four years initiatives have been on track to return $7 for every $1 state invested
The Oregon Innovation Council (Oregon InC):Oregon Funding Source for ONAMI, OTRADI & OR-BEST
EDA i6 Challenge Award
In 2010 OTRADI, OR-BEST and ONAMI united to form the “Oregon Innovation Cluster” & received i6 Award for Seattle region
Leveraged $1M from EDA w/ $1M from Oregon InC and $400K in supplemental awards from NIH/NSF totaling $2.4M for Oregon
Efforts to drive innovative technologies to market more quickly by bringing experts in science and academia together with public and private sector businesses and entrepreneurs

Technical & Business Assistance Services
Provide coaching on entrepreneurial success factors and commercialization to at least 65 start-ups across the state.
Facilitate the writing of at least 16 SBIR/STTR grants, R&D plans and business plans. Guide concepts through value proposition and investment development and to venture
capital through match-making Increase accessibility of relevant expertise in business and legal services Optimize strategic networking opportunities Impact statewide – beyond Portland Metro, and beyond Willamette Valley

Proof-of-Concept Grants
Share best practices for management of proof-of-concept development projects. Improve success of proof-of-concept project teams through monitoring and mentoring. Increase use of shared lab and fabrication facilities and test for proof-of-concept
projects. Increase number and quality of University/Industry collaborative projects.

Intern/Sabbatical Program for Students & Researchers
High school summer internships thourhgh Professor sabbaticals Increase hands-on experience in milestone-driven development and market analysis. Drive increased placement opportunities for students and/or researchers with proof-of-
concept project teams and SBIR/STTR funded companies.
