Too many people do not allow for mistakes in other people. The temptation is to punish the offender or to get even, as it were.

The fact of the matter is that no one is perfect. All of us make mistakes in our lives. And the appropriate thing to do when it occurs is to say: “I’m sorry.” And the response to that contrition is to reply: “You are forgiven.” Galaragga and Joyce helped us to remember that.

“Matrimony: Sacrament of Enduring Love”

The United States Bishops have launched a new web site – www.foryourmarriage.org – in support of this year’s Catechetical Sunday theme and a major activity under the Bishops’ priority goal to strengthen marriage. The site offers practical information and resources to engaged and married couples. Originally launched in 2007, it has attracted over 850,000 visitors to date. The redesigned site features a news magazine format, updated graphics and easier navigation. It retains such popular features as About Catholic Marriage, Daily Marriage Tips, Must-Have Conversations, and Marriage Quizzes. It also provides a link so that people can find Catholic marriage information locally. Earlier this year, the bishops also launched Por Tu Matrimonio (www.portumatrimonio.org) to encourage Spanish-speaking couples to live their marriage more fully. The Web site offers information, resources, videos and testimonials in Spanish. Check it out for some helpful tips for catechesis on the sacrament of marriage.

Catechetical Sunday

Catechetical Sunday will be celebrated on September 19th. The theme for this year is “Matrimony: Sacrament of Enduring Love” to coincide with the release of the Bishops’ Pastoral Letter on Marriage. Catechetical Sunday materials on the theme of marriage are available, online, at www.usccb.org. The USCCB Committee on Evangelization and Catechesis approved for Catechetical Sunday 2011 the theme of the revised Roman Missal.

Page 4

Catechetical Resources for the Roman Missal

The following Catechetical Resources, are just a few of the resources available in English on the USCCB website - www.usccb.org/romanmissal. The site notes that “the catechetical materials on the forthcoming changes in the Roman Missal are not as urgent in Spanish as in English. Since Spanish is a Romance language derived from Latin, the present Mass texts in Spanish more easily follow the Latin typical edition with a literal translation and a closer grammatical structure.” Two examples are provided on the USCCB website. Topics include: Questions on the revised translation of the Order of Mass Changes in the Parts of the Priest in the revised Order of Mass Changes in the Parts of the People in the revised Order of Mass Resources on the Eucharistic Prayer.

Boston College Offerings

The M.Ed. in Religious Education from the School of Theology and Ministry (STM) at Boston College is a program designed to teach people how to hand on the faith in an innovative and successful way. Within the M.Ed. in Religious Education, Boston College offers a concentration in parish catechetical leadership (PCL), which prepares ministers and educators to create and implement life-long, intergenerational faith formation programs for the whole parish community. If you work full time and feel that you have more flexibility to earn a degree during the summer, the STM also offers the option to complete the M.Ed. after five summers of study at the Summer Institute. Note that there are significant fellowships and scholarship grants available. Check it out at www.bc.ed./stm or www.bc.edu/schools/stm/summer.html or call (617) 552-6535.

Fashion Me A People

The fifth international gathering for Fashion Me a People – “Proclaim the Good News: a Message of Hope” – is scheduled for January 6-8, 2011at the Hilton Disney Hotel, Orlando Florida. This gathering is inspired by the work of Maria Harris in promoting a vision for lifelong faith formation that is rooted in the curriculum of the faith community. It is sponsored by the Center for Ministry Development in partnership with Twenty-Third Publications, Catholic Relief Services, Oregon Catholic Press and Our Sunday Visitor – Curriculum Division (formerly Harcourt Religion Publishers). For more details, go to http://secure.cmdnet.org/index.cfm?ID=FD5FCAFA-1517-61B4-4856448FDADF37CC

Connecting Catholic Families with the Bible

The Center for Ministry Development will present “Connecting Catholic Families with the Bible”, a workshop for parish leaders. The event is scheduled for Saturday, November 20, 8:30-3:00 at the Archdiocesan Center in Bloomfield. Leif Kehrwald is the presenter.
