Today is the Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time.

On Friday, we will celebrate the feast of Saint Valentine. He has an interesting history.

According to church tradition, St. Valentine was a priest near Rome in about the year 270 A.D. At that time the Roman Emperor was imprisoning Christians for not worshiping the Roman gods. During this persecution Valentine was arrested. Some say he was arrested because he was performing Christian marriages, but others say it was for helping Christians escape prison. During the trial they asked Valentine what he thought of the Roman gods Jupiter and Mercury. Of course Valentine said they were false gods and that the God that Jesus called Father was the only true God. So the Romans threw him in prison for insulting the gods. While in prison Valentine continued to minister. He witnessed to the guards. One of the guards was a good man who had adopted a blind girl. He asked Valentine if his God could help his daughter. Valentine prayed and the girl was given her sight. The guard and his whole family, 46 people, believed in Jesus and were baptized. Because these people had come to know Jesus, Valentine praised God right there in his prison cell. When the emperor heard about this, he was furious that Valentine was still making converts even in prison, so he had Valentine beheaded. Valentine's commitment to the law of love and his love for Christ was total; he gave all he had, even his own life. Sounds familiar, doesn't it.

Christ obeyed the Father's will to the point of sacrificing his own life, not for his own salvation, but for ours. Sometimes we are called to do the same. My mother, Dolores, did that for me when we were poorer than poor and she had already four children. A

sister-in-law said to her, “just destroy it” – abortion. And so, I will stand for ALL LIFE until our Lord calls me to His dwelling place. Please join me in praying that every child is sacred and a gift from God.

With much love and great affection, I remain,

Fr. Jason Mouton

St. Martin de Tours, Pray for Us! NOTE: Traditionally in our Catholic Faith the month of February is dedicated to the Holy Family. Food for Thought!

“Great lives are not built by doing and having. A

great life comes only by becoming – that is, by spending

a lifetime choosing to become a-better-version-of-yourself each day, and asking

God to help you to do just that.”

Prayer for Priests

We thank you, God our Father, for those who have responded to your call to priestly ministry. Accept this prayer we offer on their behalf: Fill them with the sure knowledge of your love. Open their hearts to the power and consolation of

the Holy Spirit. Lead them to greater union with your Son. Increase their faith in the Sacraments they celebrate as they nourish, strengthen and heal us. Lord Jesus Christ, through the intercession of St. John Vianney, grant that your priests will be inspired to strive for holiness by the power of his example. As men of prayer, may they ponder your word, follow your will and faithfully lead the flocks you have entrusted to their care. St. John Vianney, obtain for the Church an abundance of vocations to the holy priesthood. Through your intercession, may many faithful men hear Christ’s call, and respond with courage and generosity. Mary our Mother, guard with your maternal care these chosen ones. Intercede for our priests, so that by offering the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, they may be conformed more each day to the image of your Son, our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen.

St. John Vianney, patron of parish priests, pray for us!

Hear Ye…Hear Ye!
