ordering Guide: 1000 Integrated Radio & 1000 Connectorized Radio with Sync

1 IntroductionTHIS ORDERING GuIDE covers the Cambium ePMP Platform. It is intended to provide a structured guide to ordering a solution with any accessories and ancillary items for a successful installation.

The key steps involved in planning and ordering your system are:

1 REGulATORY PlANNING: To begin, you need to contact the applicable radio regulator in your area to identify any restrictions or limitation imposed on radio equipment operat-ing in your planned RF band and to determine whether or not you need to register your

PMP network. As the user of the radio equipment, it is your responsibility to ensure that

your system complies with any regulatory guidelines imposed by the local regulator.

2 SITE PlANNING: We recommend that you complete a site survey to identify the many considerations critical for successful site selection such as the availability of tower or rooftop space, the location of the grounding system, best positioning of the APs, SMs

and BHs, aesthetics and other permission-based issues, and maximum cable lengths

    required for your deployment.

3 lINk AND SECTOR PlANNING: You need to determine link and sector-planning factors such as path obstructions, risk of interference, path and link loss, maximum power levels permitted, and coverage requirements.

4 SPECTRuM ANAlYSIS: One of the most important elements in your planning process is the analysis of spectrum usage and signal strength needed to occupy the spectrum you are planning to use. For a PMP system, you need to plan your sector coverage to determine

how many APs will be needed and what sector size will be required to provide adequate

coverage for the deployment. For PTP links you need to determine whether there is

available spectrum to accomplish your desired goal.

5 PREPARING AN EPMP ORDER: Once you have identified all the regulatory requirements and planned the site, link, sector coverage and spectrum requirements, you are ready to compile your order. This Ordering Guide provides the part numbers, product descrip-

tions, instructions, and resources to help you complete an ePMP order.

    Deployment Configurations

The ePMP Solution is very versatile. Each of the radio units can be configured to be an Access Point,

a Subscriber Module or a Point to Point radio. When the connectorized radio is combined with an

external antenna, a wide variety of configurations can be supported with the solution.

The figure below illustrates the different configurations that can be deployed.

    2.1 Connectorized Synchronized Radios

Each module contains both radio and networking electronics supplied in a connectorized configura-

tion for use with an external antenna. Connectorized modules with external antennas are designed to

cope with more difficult radio conditions. When configured as an Access Point and operating in a 20

MHz channel configuration, each connectorized, synchronized radio module can provide a capacity

of up to 100 Mbps. As an Access Point, the module can support up to 120 SMs. For an optimal per-

forming system, it is recommended that no more than 60 SMs be connected to one Access Point.

    2.2 AP Sector Antenna Options

When combined with a sector antenna, the Connectorized Synchronized Radio can provide a

specific area of coverage. ePMP APs are connectorized radios and can support any coverage you

need. However, we recommend using the ePMP with the high-performance antennas that have been

developed specifically for the ePMP product either a 4-sector or a 3-sector dual polarity (H+V)

antenna. These antennas have been specially engineered to be of high quality and have the required

Front to Back ratio needed to enable frequency reuse. In particular, we recommend the use of the

90 degree sector antenna. With the recommended Cambium antenna, a four sector ePMP site can

be built using only two frequency channels. This provides the optimum level of spectrum efficiency.

Your individual network and configuration may require a different sector width. In that case, third

party antennas may be utilized to meet that need. If alternative configurations are needed, be sure

that local regulations are followed prior to purchase.

In the event that you choose to utilize a third party antenna, please note that the cable required to

connect the AP to the antenna is not included and must be purchased separately. The connectors

on the ePMP Connectorized radio are of the RP-SMA (Reverse Polarity Subminiature version A)

type. Many third party antennas utilize N type connectors. A cable that will convert between these

connector formats will be required and are readily available from a variety of suppliers.

2.3 Power Supply for Connectorized, Synchronized Radio

Each ePMP Radio requires a power supply to generate the supply voltage from the external DC

source and inject the voltage into the radio. The power supply connects to the radio and network

equipment via Cat 5e cable with RJ45 connectors.

The radio comes with a 30V Power supply which supports Gigabit Ethernet operation on the Cat

5e cable. The radio supports an input voltage range of 23 56 V and the PoE interface is 802.3af

compliant. There is a variety of alternative powering methods that can be used. The Connectorized,

Synchronized radio can be powered from either the Cambium CMM3 or CMM4 devices. Alternative-

ly, the radio can be powered by 802.3af PoE compliant switches.

ordering Guide: 1000 Integrated Radio & 1000 Connectorized Radio with Sync

While the radio comes with a power supply included, it may be necessary to purchase spare power

supplies. Spare power supplies can be purchased by ordering the following part number:

    Part Number Description

N000900L001AePMP 1000: Spare Power Supply for Radio

    with Gigabit Ethernet (no cord)

When selecting the location for the power supply, the following factors should be considered:

Indoor location with no possibility of condensation

    Availability of main electricity supply

    Accessibility for connecting Ethernet cables

Cable lengths the maximum permitted length of the copper Ethernet interface cable is 330

feet (100 m) from the radio to the power source.

    2.4 Surge Suppression

Because each connectorized, integrated radio includes a built-in surge suppressor, no external surge

suppression unit is required at the radio module. However, you should include a surge suppressor at

the buildings cable entrance point leading to the indoor power supply. If the Connectorized, syn-

chronized radio is tower-mounted, you may also want to include a surge suppressor at the bottom

of the tower near the tower ground bar.

    2.5 GPS Synchronization

GPS synchronization is essential in most networks to avoid self-interference and maintain efficient

use of available spectrum. There are a number of options to provide the network with the timing

    pulse that maintains network synchronization.

Each GPS Synchronized, Connectorized radio has a built in GPS receiver and can on its own receive

the required timing if the included, external GPS antenna is connected. The included GPS antenna

has a cable that is 1m in length. The Cambium Sector antennas have a location at the top of the sec-

tor antenna where the GPS antenna module can be installed. Alternatively, the GPS antenna can be

located away from the radio. An extension cable (not included) with a maximum length of 2 m can

be utilized to extend the distance of the antenna location from the radio.

Alternatively, the Cambium CMM3, CMM4 or compatible third party synchronization solution can be

used to provide power and timing to the GPS Synchronized, Connectorized radio. Part numbers for

the Cambium solutions are provided below. (Note that the Cambium Universal GPS (UGPS) module
