Ordering Events #2 For each of these cross sections describe the events. Add more labels if necessary. Backside of this page shows rock symbols used. 1. Layers 1-4 & 5 or more deposited horizontally; then 5 or more and part of 4 eroded forming disconformity; then 6-8 or more deposited horizontally; then deformation tilting all beds and then erosion producing angular unconformity. 2. Layers 10-13 or more deposited horizontally; intrusion of lens shaped magma body (laccolith) cooking surrounding rock and deforming layers 12, 13 or more; erosion of 12, 13 or more producing angular unconformity. 3. Deposition of 18, 19 horizontally. 1.Layers 1-4 deposited. 2. Period of erosion produces a disconformity. 3. Layers 5-11 deposited horizontally on disconformity. 4. Deformations tilting bed perhaps associated with intrusion of dike which baked walls of rock penetrated. 5. Faulting (normal fault) of all rock including dike. 6. Erosion of layers 10, 11 as well as portions of 7-9 and more to right of fault producing angular unconformity. 7. Deposition of layers 12,13 on angular unconformity. 1. Deposition of sandstone (layer 1) and limestone (layer 2). 2. Intrusion of igneous body A deforms doming layers 1, 2. 3. A covering of nondescript sediments (layer 3) is spread from higher part of dome covering layer 2 on flanks of dome. 4. High angle faulting (fault 1) on left side occurs. 5. Dike B cuts across intrusive body A and layers 1-3 spreading out as lava flow baking underlying ground. 6. After lava cools but before erosion and more deposition, high angle faulting by fault 2 on right side occurs. 7. A covering of nondescript sediments (layer 4) bury layers 1-3 and lava flow.
