BILL'S BLOG Bill Allen, Preaching Minister

As Thanksgiving and Christmas approach, these words from Psalm 100 seem especially timely.Shout for joy to the LORD, all the earth. Worship the LORD with gladness; come before Him with joyful songs. Know that the LORD is God…Enter His gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise; give thanks to Him and praise His name.

For the LORD is good and His love endures forever; His faithfulness continues through all generations.

Growing Faithful Families Danny Snell, Family Life Minister

Davy’s Diary Davy Carter, Outreach Minister

I believe those who attended the Teaching Rocket Seminar gained great insight on how to better improve our Bible class program. I was very impressed by the comment Michael Whitworth made about how strong relationships are formed in Bible class, much more so than in worship. Knowing this, I encour-age you, first of all, to come to Bible class. Secondly, invite a friend, neighbor, or co-worker to join you.The Outreach Ministry here at West Erwin plays a vital role in building strong relationships. It’s much more than just visiting the hospitals and nursing homes. It’s sharing your life and your faith with oth-ers. It’s building trust and confidence with your fellowman. It’s honoring God by serving in His king-dom. It’s building faith, making lifelong friends, and saving souls by the precious gospel of Jesus Christ. So, attending Bible class regularly is a powerful thing!

Donnie’s Desk LOVING LIKE JESUS Donnie Carnathan, Benevolence Minister One of the hardest things Paul wrote was, Be imitators of me, as I am of Christ (1 Cor. 11:1). Christ is our supreme example of who we are to imitate and one of his hardest traits to follow is loving like Jesus did. Consider Jesus’ act of washing His disciple’s feet (Jo. 13:1-20). Looking at this act shows us the way in which we are to love one another. First, our love for one another should not be overcome by evil. During supper, when the devil had already put it into the heart of Judas…to betray him (Jo.13:2), Jesus knew that Judas would betray Him. He knew Peter would deny Him and He knew His disciples would flee from the garden. Yet, Jesus still washed their feet. Do we show that kind of love when someone hurts us? Secondly, our love for one another should not be limited by social classes. Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands, and that he had come from God and was going back to God (Jo. 13:3). One of Jesus’ greatest traits was that He loved those that society turned its back on. Jesus looked to the heart rather than the appearance. Thirdly, our love for one another should be a love of action. Then he poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples’ feet (Jo.13:5). Jesus took on the role of a servant when nobody else had the humility to do it. The disciples could argue over position, but not over a towel. Do you try to love like Jesus?

W E KIDS Donni Cook, Children’s Education Coordinator

THANKSGIVING thoughts…I always enjoy Thanksgiving! A day to gather for feasting, football, family, “pre-Black Friday shopping” and Thanksgiving. I wonder if God believes we should celebrate every day as a day of “thanksgiving” – I mean, He blesses us beyond measure, right?! I know God is pleased to hear from us daily as we give thanks for our blessings! But, personally, I know that even though I thank God for so, so many blessings, I am sure that I take for granted so many things that He does for me and blesses me with that go unnoticed.Today, I want to notice and give thanks for the WE kids that make me smile as they learn God’s word! I am also thankful for the parents that are committed to bringing their children to church & Bible Class each week! It is amazing what your children are learning! It is my hope that we can help your children recognize some of the things we take for granted that God so richly blesses us with! Thanks for sharing your children with us!

WE KIDS, are you ready for special event!? Tell your parents to mark their calendars for December 16th!! You don’t want to miss this fun day! More info to come!!

The K-5th grade Wednesday evening class will fill about 20-25 stockings for our shut-ins for Christmas. Place items in the “Christmas Box” that is in the Foyer by Nov. 25! Miss Donni
