ORCHESTRALCONCERTSIN KENDAL2021-22CONCERT SERIES

Welcome to our2021/2022 seasonNever has that greeting felt so genuine and been so wholehearted. We very much hope that you, like us, are looking forward to the return of live classical orchestral concerts to Kendal in the coming months. We have been working behind the scenes to resume our programme as early as the pandemic allows.

The 2021/2022 programme will start in mid-October and should be as varied as ever with several young soloists and conductors. We hope it will include a range of visiting orchestras as well as our very own Lakeland Sinfonia. Details of the later programmes, the soloists and conductors, are still to be finalised and are subject to change due to Covid-19. However, we wanted to offer you encouragement with dates and the promise of wonderful music to come.

We hope this brochure gives you the information that you need to plan for your concert-going. Some aspects of ticketing and seat reservation will have to be different from the past and further details of these changes are on the inside back cover of this brochure. For now, see what we have in store, plan your diary and we very much hope to see you in Kendal Leisure Centre very soon.

The Trustees of Lakeland Sinfonia Concert Society

We hope that you enjoy our varied programme of great classical music. Join us to enjoy performances by some of the best soloists, conductors and orchestras in the world – all right here on our doorstep.

is concert was a gem – the mix of a ne string ensemble, music with a political slant and a superb pianist made it particularly memorable.

Lakeland SinfoniaConductor: Wyn DaviesSoloist: Bradley Creswick Beethoven Overture The Creatures of Prometheus, SchubertSymphony No. 2 and Beethoven Violin Concerto

The evergreen, ever-popular, Bradley Creswick returns to Kendal to play Beethoven’s wonderful violin concerto. Our own Lakeland Sinfonia has been keen to resume playing together and, with Wyn Davies conducting, this is sure to be a popular concert.

Who can resist joining us to hear the new leader of the famous Royal Northern Sinfonia play Vaughan Williams’ timeless classic? Combined with Mozart’s masterpiece inspired by the ‘Storm and Stress’ artistic movement, this programme should give us all a great night of beautiful live music.

If intercontinental travel is allowed then hold on to your hats for a full-on performance from a famous orchestra. Put the date in your diary - we’ll aim to put on an alternative if necessary.

A world-class performance is guaranteed from this famous orchestra, if Covid allows them to tour. We’ll aim to put on a concert regardless so please put the date in your diary.

Hopefully this big-name orchestra will join us again for another excellent night out in Kendal.

We’re hoping that Covid will allow us to conjure up something adventurous to end our season. Put the date in your diary now, but you’ll have to wait to find out more...

New booking process for our new seasonWe are very aware of the continued risks from the pandemic and the ongoing uncertainties around large gatherings and live performances. The Trustees have taken all of this into account in planning the forthcoming season and in making new arrangements for ticket sales.

• We cannot offer our normal ‘subscription’ tickets this season nor, unfortunately, guarantee availability of Members’ preferred seats.

• Booking will be on a concert-by-concert basis, with discounted tickets and first choice of seats only available to Members and Friends of the Society.

• The first concert of the season in October 2021 will have all seats available for booking and will have a pre-concert talk at 6.30pm and an interval.

• Subsequently, if concerts have to take place in a socially distanced way, there will be no pre-concert talk, a shorter programme, no interval or bar, and restrictions on movement. If this is the case, we will send ticket holders further information on how things will be organised.

• All ticket sales will be online at www.lakelandsinfonia.org.uk or by phone on 0333 666 3366. You will be asked to give contact details for everyone in your party, in order to enable Track and Trace.

Tickets sales for the 16 October concert will open to Members on Wednesday 1 September at 9.00am. The box office details for subsequent concerts will be announced in the weeks that follow.

Tickets are priced at £20 or £25 for the flat area and £28 or £35 for the Grand Tier (depending on the concert) with a 15% discount to Members and Friends. We will maintain our Young Person ticket offer of £5 (under 19 or full-time student).

PracticalitiesConcerts are held on Saturday evenings at 7:30pm and, as long as social distancing is not required, there will be a pre-concert talk at 6:30pm.

All concerts take place at the Westmorland Hall, Kendal Leisure Centre, Burton Road, Kendal, Cumbria LA9 7HX. The Westmorland Hall is an accessible public building. Wheelchair spaces are bookable. The ‘Grand Tier’ is tiered seating accessed via steps; the ‘Area’ is flat and close to the raised stage. For details and special needs please contact Kendal Leisure Centre on 01539 729777 and see our website.

Parking is available on site; overflow parking is available at Kirkbie Kendal School and Murley Moss Business Park. All parking is subject to availability and at your own risk.

Please book your tickets in advance as each concert becomes available, either online via our website or by calling the telephone booking line, open 9.00am to 5.00pm, every day.

Get more involvedMaybe you have considered becoming a Member in the past and now seems like a good time, given the privileged booking arrangements. If so, please complete the membership form on our website or email [email protected] for details of how to become a Member in time for the opening of the box office.

Alternatively, if you are even more committed to supporting the Society’s work in bringing renowned professional orchestral musicians to Lakeland, you could become a Friend.

This involves a donation of at least £75 (£100 minimum for joint Friend status for a couple or a family) and, in return, we will involve you in the social side of our concerts and the Society. You will be invited to a reception following one of our Lakeland Sinfonia concerts where you can meet players, the conductor and soloist as well as other Friends, Patrons and corporate Sponsors. The Trustees are also keen to consult with Members and Friends, at the AGM and throughout the year, to ensure that Lakeland Sinfonia is very much a listening organisation.
