Stay tuned to ORCHARDS FB page for more information on caravanning with Kristen Adkins.

Why: Students will learn about the work of the IV&V Program and how it has helped the field of aviation from NASA software engineers. Education specialists from the MACC and the ERC will introduce the students to the basic principles of weight and balance, Newton’s Laws of Motion, and Bernoulli’s Principle through hands-on activities such as designing, producing, and testing Styrofoam airfoils in a wind tunnel at 40mph. Students will then examine the control surfaces of modern and model planes to learn how these are used to maneuver aircrafts. Students will have the opportunity to fly NASA’s own E-flight Alpha 450 aircraft with the safe use of a buddy-box system at Meredith Field or near-by the NASA ERC on WVHTCF property.

Science Content Standards met by Aviation *Science as Inquiry: abilities necessary to do scientific inquiry *Unifying Concepts and Processes: evidence, models, and explanation; change, constancy, and measurement *Physical Science: motions and forces *History and Nature of Science: Science as the human endeavor.

All about Orchards What does Orchards even stand for? It’s actually an acronym! It stands for Organization Reaching Christian

Homeschoolers Advancing, Rearing, and Developing Students.

How does Orchards function?

Your $35 annual dues cover, but are not limited to, purchase of an annual insurance policy, newsletter costs, facility

rentals, and purchase of resources.

Regular Member Benefits include a monthly newsletter, September-May, access to a Membership Directory,

participation in field trips/co-op classes/additional activities provided by members.

Home School Legal Defense Association (HSLDA) Orchards is working toward becoming a discount group for HSLDA. In order to do so, we need 10 families to be

members already. Membership can be a budget issue for many families. So, what makes the membership fee worth it?

“Few things are more exasperating than being told, after finally reaching the clerk’s window at your local DMV office, that you lack the “proper paperwork” to get whatever it was you came for.

Yet this sort of exasperation used to be commonplace for homeschool students applying for a learner’s permit or driver’s license in West Virginia. Thanks to a new law initiated by HSLDA, homeschoolers there no longer face this bureaucratic discrimination.” http://www.hslda.org/docs/news/2015/201508250.asp
