The following is intended to outline our general

    This is what I hear

Contracts do not reward collaborative working

Not enough external incentive to innovate

e.g. modularization, standardization Insufficient motivation for parties to seek ways to

deliver a better or quicker product

    Risk/reward sharing

No consideration of Dfx (manufacturability, cost, supplychain)

Spending more, to save more is tough to justify

    Old habits die hard !!

Lack of co-operation & trust Contractors make money from Variations, lawyers from

    disputes

    Lessons from other Industries

Recognition that the way you design a product isdifferent from the way you build it (multiplemodels) formalized review & change processes

    Re-Use of standard modules/systems &components, rather than re-design

    Use same technologies for communicating

    fragmented supply chain

Ingrained collaborative discipline for Dfx (Designfor Manufacturability, Design for Supply Chain)

Integrated though the entire supply chain toachieve time-phased delivery

Yes there are Industry differences, but the fundamentals are the same.

    Conclusions

Maximum value will come from using BIM and IPDprocesses in harmony

Its not a technology Issue The technology is largely available to deliver the

collaborative working processes and get you up the ramp

If UK Construction doesnt become more competitive, foreign companies will take a large share of the market

People chose their eco-system based on their ability todeliver what is required.

Enabling IPD working increases competitive advantage.

For software vendors, the field of dreams theory isnot enough.it needs adoption & revenue
