Substantiation for all Oracle Optimized Solutions• 1/2 operational and acquisition costs
– Based on comparison of two architectures. Oracle configuration using Sun Blade 6000 chassis and one Ethernet Switched NEM 24p 10GE is captured (page 6 ) here: http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/articles/systems-hardware-architecture/oo-soln-weblogic-11g-170238.pdf. To construct comparable configuration using standard networking components from Cisco will require one Cisco 4900M 10GbE networking switch and two 8 port X2 cards plus cables. As of 4/15/2011:
– Ethernet Switched NEM 24p 10GE is $13,500 (https://shop.sun.com/store/productsa/183cc81d-a3dd-11de-9d26-080020a9ed93?intcmp=soc) Cisco 4900M 10GbE switch is $11,400 (http://www.cdw.com/shop/products/Cisco-Catalyst-4900M-switch-8-ports-managed-rack-mountable/1392267.aspx)
– Cisco 8 port X2 cards is $5,000 (http://www.cdw.com/shop/products/Cisco-8-port-2-1-10-Gigabit-Ethernet-X2-half-card-expansion-module/1513755.aspx?enkwrd=ALLPROD%3a|1513755|All%20Product%20Catalog). Need 2x. Total is $10,000
– Cisco X2-10GB-CX4 Transceiver Module is $423 ( http://www.cdw.com/shop/products/Cisco-10GBASE-CX4-Module/855305.aspx?enkwrd=ALLPROD%3a|Cisco%2520X2-10GB-CX4|All%20Product%20Catalog). Need 24x. Total is $10,152
– The total price using Cicso switch, components and cabling enough to connect all blades is $31,500. Therefore, Oracle NEM at $13,500 is less than half the cost.
• Deploy faster/easier with lower risk of in-service downtime – Pre-tested configurations assembled at the factory will greatly reduce deployment risks and the time required to determine best practices and configurations for custom solutions
compared to deployment time of Optimized Solution.
• Achieve 2.5x faster transactional throughput and 3x more capacity with Oracle’s unique HA architectures– 2.5x faster eCommerce throughput is based on internal testing published via the following whitepaper (page 29): http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/articles/systems-hardware-
architecture/oo-soln-weblogic-11g-170238.pdf .Comparison was done by adding Coherence tier versus running the same test without Coherence.– Up to 3x more concurrent users than HP claim is based on published Siebel CRM 8.0 Platform Sizing and Performance Program (PSPP) benchmark results as of 11/10/10. • Oracle on Oracle– Oracle has not certified any of its products on VMware virtualized environments. Oracle Support will assist customers running Oracle products on VMware in the following manner: Oracle will only provide support
for issues that either are known to occur on the native OS, or can be demonstrated not to be as a result of running on VMware. – If a problem is a known Oracle issue, Oracle support will recommend the appropriate solution on the native OS. If that solution does not work in the VMware virtualized environment, the customer will be referred to
VMware for support. When the customer can demonstrate that the Oracle solution does not work when running on the native OS, Oracle will resume support, including logging a bug with Oracle Development for investigation if required.
– If the problem is determined not to be a known Oracle issue, we will refer the customer to VMware for support. When the customer can demonstrate that the issue occurs when running on the native OS, Oracle will resume support, including logging a bug with Oracle Development for investigation if required.
– NOTE: Oracle has not certified any of its products on VMware. For Oracle RAC, Oracle will only accept Service Requests as described in this note on Oracle RAC 11.2.0.2 and later releaseshttps://support.oracle.com/CSP/main/article?cmd=show&type=NOT&doctype=HOWTO&id=942852.1https://support.oracle.com/CSP/main/article?cmd=show&type=NOT&id=249212.1
Oracle Optimized Solution for Weblogic Suite
• 1/2 better acquisition cost – Based on comparison of two architectures. Oracle configuration using Sun Blade 6000 chassis and one Ethernet Switched NEM 24p 10GE is captured (page 6 ) here:
http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/articles/systems-hardware-architecture/oo-soln-weblogic-11g-170238.pdf. To construct comparable configuration using standard networking components from Cisco will require one Cisco 4900M 10GbE networking switch and two 8 port X2 cards plus cables. As of 4/15/2011:
– Ethernet Switched NEM 24p 10GE is $13,500 (https://shop.sun.com/store/productsa/183cc81d-a3dd-11de-9d26-080020a9ed93?intcmp=soc)– Cisco 4900M 10GbE switch is $11,400 (http://www.cdw.com/shop/products/Cisco-Catalyst-4900M-switch-8-ports-managed-rack-mountable/1392267.aspx)– Cisco 8 port X2 cards is $5,000 (
http://www.cdw.com/shop/products/Cisco-8-port-2-1-10-Gigabit-Ethernet-X2-half-card-expansion-module/1513755.aspx?enkwrd=ALLPROD%3a|1513755|All%20Product%20Catalog).
• 40% lower access cost per transaction– Based on 40% reduction in back-end data source (DB) load when implementing Coherence. Additional details (page 26):
http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/articles/systems-hardware-architecture/oo-soln-weblogic-11g-170238.pdf– This applies to any backend data source, including mainframe. Accessing mainframes typically incur per transaction cost. Therefore decreasing those accesses by 40% by placing
Coherence, using Oracle Tuxedo, in front of the mainframe would lower the access costs proportionally.
• 2.5x faster eCommerce results – Based on internal testing published via the following whitepaper (page 29): http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/articles/systems-hardware-architecture/oo-soln-weblogic-11g-170238.pdf– Comparison was done by adding Coherence tier versus running the same test without Coherence

Oracle Optimized Solution for Enterprise Cloud Infrastructure
• Best Total Cost of Ownership– 36% better three-year TCO than HP– TCO savings are based on study by Edison Group “The Optimized Stack: Reducing Total Cost of Ownership through Vertical
Integration”. All vendor pricing, as of July 12, 2011. The study concluded that Oracle’s Sun Blade X6270 M2 servers offer a 36% lower three-year total cost of ownership than a comparable HP BladeSystem c7000 with ten BL460c G7 and networking deployed with RHEL and vSphere. Source: http://www.oracle.com/us/products/servers-storage/servers/x86/edison-x86-infrastructure-tco-wp-431547.pdf
• Lowest Deployment Time w/ VM Templates– Up to 98% faster VM instance deployment than HP– Claim is based on Oracle internal testing. Oracle measured the time from the start of physical implementation of Oracle’s Sun
Blade 6000 system with 10 Sun Blade X6270 blades until the first Oracle VM virtual machine was deployed and ready for software installation. This time was compared to an equivalent configuration that consisted of 10 HP BL460c G7 running RHEL and vSphere. The time required by Oracle was roughly 1 hour vs. 99 hours required by HP. External link to this study is forthcoming.
Oracle Optimized Solution for Oracle Secure Backup
• 1/5 the cost of Symantec solution– This is based on Oracle Secure Backup Software licensing compared to Netbackup. The number is even greater
when hardware and storage costs are considered. The overall licensing cost comparison between Oracle Secure Backup and other vendors would show Oracle Secure Backup to be from 1.5x to 2.5x less costly per year depending on features used with all software packages being compared. The key differentiator is that Oracle does not charge for capacity at all. Note that for large customers that use ELA's with their backup software vendor these claims may not be valid. For example, a mid-Western state purchased an Exadata (the most common size 1/4 rack) and all the licensing required to back it up to their existing Netbackup solution was already in their ELA agreement.
• 20X lower $/GB than D2D – The cost comparison of disk to tape storage media is based on the original study by Horison Information Strategies,
2009. Power and cooling are NOT considered in this number. For additional details, refer to: http://www.horison.com/OracleTieredStorageTakesCenterStage.pdf
• Scale capacity and performance linearly – The solution uses a building block approach to achieve linear scalability. Adding backup bandwidth is done by
adding tape drives, each tape drive added delivers guaranteed bandwidth as there are no shared resources between tape drives. Adding capacity is done by adding tapes.
