Oracle BI Applications Investment Priorities from Oracle

As such, the following are the investment priorities related to enabling technologies:

» BI Applications will adopt the latest versions of enabling technologies such as updates to OBIEE, the Oracle Database, browsers and operating systems as they become available. This will enable BI Applications customers to be confident in operational stability, security and browser compatibility.

» Oracle’s strategic development for ELT for BI Applications will focus on the Oracle Data Integrator and related technologies. Since the fielding of the ODI compatible version of BI Applications in the 11g series, customers have realized substantial financial and operational benefits from reduced time to value and improved speed of operations. Oracle continues to evolve and develop ODI, and Oracle’s BI Applications will take advantage of the latest capabilities as they become available.

» Oracle’s commitment to ELT with different Source systems remains. New updates and versions will continue to support a variety of Apps Unlimited sources systems, including those systems that are deployed on non-Oracle databases such as MS SQL Server and IBM DB2.

» Oracle will continue to work with select partners to certify their data warehouse technologies as a target data warehouse as they become available and compatible with the ODI processes.

» Oracle BI Applications will enhance its capabilities and advantages from Oracle’s Engineered Systems, including new certifications and updated support.

» Oracle will continue to support the 7.9.6.x product series according to the Oracle Lifetime Support policy located at http://www.oracle.com/us/support/library/lifetime-support-middleware-069163.pdf including certifications of databases, operating systems, and enabling 3rd party technologies. However, Oracle will no longer develop new content for this series, nor extend the 7.9.6.x support or any series based on an ETL architecture with Informatica.

Scenario 1

Two Options

Customer has existing 7.9.6.x BI Applications, and wants to take advantage of new modules or Cloud connectors provided in the 11g Series of BI Applications.

This customer has two options:

1) field the new capabilities using the 11g series as a separate instance, or

2) migrate their existing BI Apps forward using partners and/or tools that assist with the movement.

This latter approach will provide a unified instance.

Scenario 2

Customer has a corporate standard on Informatica, and cannot entertain a mixed deployment. This customer can remain on the 7.9.6.x series of BI Applications.

Oracle will fully support their deployment per the Lifetime Support Policy (Please refer to slide 2) and provide incremental certification updates for upgrades in enabling technologies, such as the database, the application server, or operating systems.

Scenario 3Customer has a corporate initiative to move their infrastructure to the Cloud, including key business applications. This customer should consider the ability to have their BI Applications serviced by Oracle’s Cloud Analytics products, which provide a subscription based offering within the Cloud, using Oracle’s industry leading infrastructure and security services.

This approach will also allow these customers to link data from on-premises Applications up to the Oracle Cloud, or from other Cloud Applications.
