Last Night's Entertainment in the Victoria Hall. Last night's entertainment in tbe Victoria Hall, organised by the Workers' Association in aid of funds for comforts for our soldiers, demonstrated rare talent ia officers and rank and file cf the -0th Durhams. In sentimental and oomio song, thrilling reoitation, humorous patter and oharaoter aketohes, as well aa clog danoing and pianoforte playing, there was conspicuous ability. The programme was attractive, the audience large and enthuai&atic, and high interest sustained throughout. " Hal, the Highwayman," whioh is a play in one act, was skilfully dramatised, the characters beicg admirably sustained by Captain Jessop, Durham Light Infantry, Miss Marda Bell Irving, Mr Buoban Hepburn, Royal Soots ; Cspt. the Hon. C. Finoh, Rifle Brigade ; Mrs Guy Graham, and Miss Violet Buobanen Jardine. The funny atories of Capt. Hatherley were aparkliog in wit and mirth-provoking withal—yarns, censored and otherwise, well told by a humorous mac. The entertainment in tbe afternoon was also enjoyable, and the total proceeds satisfactory. Farewell to Barnard Castle Friends. To the Editor of the " Teesdale Mercury." THE WAR. B I G movements of German troops

towards the Western front are reported, and it is stated that the Kaiser will visit Flanders this week to elaborate plans for a new offensive. If the latter news is true the Allies will welcome it. In the House of Commons yesterday, Mr Asquith said the Army vote would be postponed until next week, owing to the impossibility of getting complete details of L,ord Derby's scheme.
