Brisbane, Australia’s third largest city and capital of the state of Queensland, is one of the major business hubs in the Asia-Pacific. Most Australian corporations, as well as numerous international companies, have offices in Brisbane while numerous high technology and creative businesses are located in and around the city.
Optimism: Icograda Design Week Brisbane 2010 will be hosted under the patronage of the Premier of Queensland and Minister for the Arts, Anna Bligh from 11–17 October 2010.
The main venue for the event will be the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre, located in the South Bank precinct across the river from Brisbane’s vibrant city centre. The opening reception for VIP guests and delegates will be hosted at the Gallery of Modern Art, Queensland Art Gallery, Brisbane’s premier visual arts institution and a leading art museum nationally.

ABOUT THE ORGANISERS
AGDA
AGDA (Australian Graphic Design Association) is the peak national organisation representing the graphic design industry.
It was founded in 1988 to facilitate the advancement of design as a professional, strategic and cultural force.
With more than 2 600 members distributed throughout the creative, visual communication, applied design and technology sectors, it is dedicated to increasing the awareness, value and importance of design through an interrelated program of state, national and international activities in education, advocacy and professional development. Many of these activities are promoted to the wider public and business communities.
AGDA’s goal is the establishment of fair and productive working relationships between graphic designers and their clients by providing designers with the tools and information to manage their professional careers.

ICOGRADA
Icograda (the International Council of Graphic Design Associations) is the world body for professional communication design and is a partner of the International Design Alliance (IDA).
Founded in 1963, it is a voluntary assembly of organisations concerned with graphic design, visual communication, design management, promotion, education, research and journalism. Icograda promotes communication designers’ vital role in society and commerce and unifies the voices of graphic designers and visual communicators worldwide.
Mission, vision and values The vision, mission and core values of the Council are collectively embodied in the statement ‘leading creatively’ and manifested through its members’ diverse activities to use design as a medium for progressive change.
Defining the professionCommunication design is an intellectual, technical and creative activity concerned not simply with the production of images but with the analysis, organisation and methods of presentation of visual solutions to communication problems.
