Fossil not renewable fuels availability R/P ratio (Reserves/Production ):

40,6 years for crude oil60,7 years for natural gas

These figures are probably optimistic and do nottake into account the future significant increase in Asia/Pacific Region demand (China, India) and the recent reserves downward corrections: a more conservative evaluation of crude oil R/Pshould be about 30 years .

Oil based hydrocarbon fuels will remain available till 2030/2035, but its price increase is very difficult to be predicted.

Alternative fuels and alternative powertrain concepts are a strategic issue for road transportation industry. IVECO has to be ready for a gradual introduction of alternatives according to the market demand.

Advantages of CNG for city / road transportationAdvantages of CNG for city / road transportationAdvantages of CNG for city / road transportation

Alternative fuel used in trucks and buses offers significant advantages:

• Lower gaseous emissions• Lower noise • Reduced CO2 emission

In the case of stoichiometric mixture combustion (Iveco choice), exhaust pollutants are well below the levels of the EEV (Enhanced Environmental Vehicle), very near the fuel cell level

IVECO –FCC cooperation (I)IVECO IVECO ––FCC cooperation (I)FCC cooperation (I)

• FCC has a 25 year long history of cooperation with Iveco (including the previous Pegaso years) to jointly develop the best and most dedicated trucks to optimize the garbage collection service

• Iveco has always given full technical support to FCC to build a competitive technological and ecological advantage of the service offered to municipalities

• The technological advantage is to do the same job with less vehicles

• The ecological advantage is to be much cleaner than anybody else

• Very low noise level, as the service is normally given by night in Spain

• Front high power P.T.O’s up to 100 CV, direct from engine. Necessary for triple hydraulic pump assembly in selective collection

• 3rd steering axle for rear loading and 2nd steering axle and full pneumatic suspension for selective collection, in order to guarantee constant horizontal stability

• High torque at low revs. and very low noise CNG and diesel alternatives in any configuration

• The most complete range of waste collection in Europe

FCC SITUATIONFCC SITUATIONFCC SITUATION

• Continuous need for new, performing and very competitive products to improve their offers

• FCC chose the CNG strategy (for example 340 CNG trucks in Madrid, 450 in Spain)

• New product requirements: a 2.3m wide, 26 t GVW CNG, 3 axle truck, for use in the urban centre. With the same capacity and performances of the standard 2,5 m.

• Necessity to run in the historical center town, narrow streets, compatible with double line parking cars

• Load capacity of 18 m³, the same that the standard 2.5 m. This means 60% more than existing 2,3 competitor diesel vehicles in use today

• Engine with high torque at low revolutions engine able to do thecompactation at an extremely silent level

• Same front engine high power, heavy duty take-off

• Environmental Enhanced Vehicle (EEV) homologated GNC engines
