Making the point (1)
In fact the integration of multiple criteria in
product design,
Whether in SBD or traditional methods,
is the success-key

Optimization and Decision-Making for SBD
SBD is already complicated!
SBD would definitly need easier integtation andsimpler MOO & MCDM tools to be practical.
Focusing on design! not configuring the optimzation

Philosophy
SBD is a complicated task.
Simplification;
Identifying the potential algorithms in OR community and
adopting them for engineering applications.
Numerus algorithms exist, but no awareness!

Engineering design optimization in practice
Limited Awareness about OR Algorithms
Engineering community often dosent like the
mathematical complexity involved in OR

Major remarks
The majority of the companies try to achieve optimized design.
40% support continuous improvement as a way to improvement.
Optimization of the design are mostly expert-based optimization approach.
Design optimization is time consuming.
FEA and CAE followed by classical DOE.
The main criterion to optimize a design is cost.
Expert-based optimization approaches are less time consuming than GA.
Developing novel designs using GAs fails to describe a logical product
development process involving DM.
Lack of integrated software tools to support the optimisation process.

Software tools
In fact the usage of an algorithm is limitedunless implemented via a software tools

Making a point
Once the algorithm is presented via a software
tool engineers become more interested.
What engineer needs: less mathematics and
more integration capabilities with major CAE
codes.

Human; the most reliable DM
Although human is not ideal for decision-making
but still is way more intelligent vs bees, ants,
immune and genetic operators.
Involving the human still is preferable
