THE OPPORTUNITY

Sanctus Church has a bold vision to become a regional church in the GTA of 10,000 meeting the emotional, physical and spiritual needs of people in Jesus’ name. Sanctus seeks a Senior Executive Pastor to be the chief implementor of that vision, giving oversight to the various ministries and operations of the church. The Senior Executive Pastor will design and plan strategic goals and work closely with the Senior Pastor to ensure alignment and success in achieving the mission and vision of Sanctus.

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

The roots of Sanctus Church were established in 1985, with 40 believers meeting together at a local public school in Pickering, ON. The faithfulness and generosity of believers over the last 35 years has led Sanctus to become a multi-site church of over 3,500 with plans to expand from 4 locations to 10 ministering to 10,000.

WHO WE ARE

We are a diverse multicultural, community representing 55 nations. We come from a variety of backgrounds, demographics and generations and seek to embrace understanding in our differences, focusing on what unites us. We are a mix of charismatic expression, conservative theology, liturgical practice and evangelical outreach with a large and diverse prayer ministry. We pivoted quickly to online services due to COVID-19 and plan to continue our online presence even when we are able to meet in person at one our four locations – Ajax, Port Perry, Pickering and Bowmanville.

Our Strategic Plan projects growth from 4 locations to 10 and attendance from 3,500 to 10,000. Current staff totals 28 persons. Staff report to the Senior Leadership Team (Executive Pastor Ministries, Executive Pastor Sites & Services, Director Operations and Director Human Resources). The Senior Leadership Team reports to the Senior Executive Pastor, who leads alongside the Senior Pastor and reports directly to the Board of Elders

THE ROLE DESCRIPTION

The Senior Executive Pastor is the chief implementer of Sanctus Church’s vision to become a regional church of 10,000 meeting the emotional, physical and spiritual needs of people in Jesus’ name. The position has overall responsibility for the various ministries, operations, finances and human resources functions of Sanctus Church. The position has responsibility for designing and planning strategic goals to achieve the mission and vision of Sanctus Church. The position abides by the Board Governance Policy and ensures complete compliance to the Canada Not for Profit Act in all aspects of the church’s Ministries & Operations. The Senior Executive Pastor provides organizational leadership by overseeing all aspects of employee development in an effort to continually pursue an environment of growth, strong spiritual health and maintaining a fun place to work. The Senior Executive Pastor reports to the Board of Elders. The Senior Leadership Team reports to the Senior Executive Pastor.

This Senior Executive Pastor works closely with the Senior Pastor to ensure alignment and success in achieving the mission and vision. The role works closely with the Senior Pastor to ensure plans align with vision. The position is a special advisor to the Board of Elders and holds no voting privileges.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• In partnership with the Board of Elders and the SeniorPastor, communicate and operationalize the mission,vision and values of Sanctus Church.

• Partner with the Senior Pastor to ensure unifiedcommunication of Sanctus Church’s mission, vision andvalues at all levels of leadership, staff and community.

• Oversee the Senior Leadership Team, to establish goals,policies, and procedures for all Sanctus ministries,operations, finance and human resource functions.

• In partnership with the Board of Elders and the SeniorPastor, design and plan strategic goals to achieve themission, vision and values of Sanctus Church.

• In partnership with the Board of Elders and adherenceto Board Governance policy, oversee and manageoperational plans and budgets; and measure/monitorprogress to achieve strategic ends/goals.

• Attend and present at monthly Board of Eldersmeetings.

• Implement an effective management structurerecognizing and delegating responsibilities toensure excellence in all aspects of ministries &operations.

• Partner with the Board of Elders to ensure all legaland regulatory obligations for Sanctus Church aremet and employees abide by Sanctus Church’s StaffHandbook.

• Investigate new leading-edge organizations andnetworks to seek ways to improve and innovate inSanctus Church’s strategy to implement the vision.

• Oversee succession plans for all key roles andinvest in development of identified successors toprepare them for next roles.

• Develop, equip and train the Senior Leadershipteam to fulfil their responsibilities.

• Oversee the brand integrity of Sanctus churchensuring reputation is maintained in alignment withvision and mission.

• Preaching possibility based on gifting.

• Act as a key public relations representative forSanctus Church.

REQUIRED SKILL SET

• Fully aligned with the mission, vision and values of Sanctus Church.

• Spiritual maturity to lead the growth of a vibrant movement.

• Exceptional strategic, organizational and leadership skills.

• Proven ability to solve and innovate.

• Theological education preferred.

• A demonstrated history of hiring and developing exceptional leaders.

• Excellent problem-solving skills within a team environment.

• Strong relational/communication skills; and strong financial and business acumen.

• Significant experience in leading a growing movement.

• Demonstrate mutual submission, humility and perseverance.

• Able to lead and function in a gift-based, large, multi-staff, church.

• Strong understanding of Board Governance.

• Ordained (or willing to go through process).

QUALIFICATIONS

• Theological Education preferred.

• 5+ years experience in leading agrowing organization and developingexceptional leaders.

• Fully aligned with the mission, visionand values and Statement of Faith ofSanctus Church.
