WolfieLand Carnival: Seawolves, you don't want to miss WolfieLand this Saturday. This first-of-its-kind
tradition brings a full carnival to campus, including a ferris wheel, bumper cars, Gravitron, inflatables, cotton
candy, popcorn, drinks, DJ, live performances, carnival game booths, and over 2,000 prizes waiting to be
won! Come to the SAC Parking Lot this Saturday 9/10 from 3-9pm to be part of this new tradition! Best part? It
is absolutely free and open to all students!

Academic Success & Tutoring Center Fall 2016 Services: Academic Success & Tutoring Center (ASTC)
offers a variety of free services for all undergraduate students including: peer tutoring, peer academic success
coaching, academic success workshops, peer assisted learning, and an ASC 101 course: practicing engaging
presentations. All appointments for peer tutoring must be scheduled in advance through an online
scheduling system. The scheduling system opens on Monday, September 12th, with the first day of
tutoring on Monday, September 19th. The scheduling system can be found at

Jobs Available in the Department of Neurobiology and Behavior: There are 1-2 work study/non-work
study positions available to assist in the upkeep of a zebrafish colony. Shifts are 1-3 hours in the morning or
afternoon, longer on the weekends. Sophomore or Junior Biology/Biochemistry major preferred. Students
must be available on weekends and during winter break. Positions include up to 15 hours per week, starting
rate $9/hour.

SB C-CERT Information Sessions: SB C-CERT is a nationally recognized volunteer first response organization, which specializes in auxiliary services. In other words, we are a jack of all trades! We work side by side with SB-VAC, UPD, and the Fire Marshals. We are trained in crowd control, disaster preparedness, and basic medical skills (CPR, AED, First Aid) to name a few. We are currently in the middle of a busy recruitment season for eager students who want to make an impact on the community. We are holding two information sessions: Friday September 9th from 8-9 PM in SAC 303, and September 20th from 8-9 PM, in the SAC auditorium. In order to be a part of C-CERT, members must sign up for an interview date at either of the information sessions! For more details on the info sessions, and directions to apply, see attached flyer SBU Student Blood Drive Committee: The SBU Student Blood Drive Committee are looking for volunteers
that can help promote blood drive dates as well as provide assistance during the drives. Students can gain
valuable non-clinical experience or community service hours through this opportunity. Bllod donors are also

Getting Research Experience: Techniques & Strategies: This interactive workshop is designed for students
interested in obtaining a research opportunity. It will provide a comprehensive overview of various research
techniques and offer extensive resources necessary for obtaining a research positions! Meet research
coordinators/faculty members and find out how to secure a research position and learn about various research
projects/opportunities on and off campus including basic, translational and clinical research. Examples of
employers on the panel include Brookhaven National Laboratory, Stony Brook Medicine, NYU, and Stony

Intramural NIAID Research Opportunities (INRO): An opportunity for undergraduate seniors to spend 4
days at NIAID (National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease) next February to learn about NIAID
postbaccalaureate research training programs available to students for the next year. The program is designed
for students from populations under-represented in the biomedical sciences including ethnic minorities,
students from financially disadvantaged backgrounds or with disabilities. The 4 day visit is from February 6 - 9,
2017 with all expenses paid by NIAID.

ACADEMIC SUCCESS WORKSHOPS
- Interactive, topic-based workshops (e.g.: time management, study skills, etc.)
- Registration is highly recommended and is done through the ASTC website
- Walk-ins are welcome, if space allows. Workshops fill quickly.
- Workshops count as a “plan” event for the first-year seminar 101 students
PEER ASSISTED LEARNING (P.A.L.)
- Peer-facilitated, informal, collaborative learning sessions where students work together to gain a
deeper understanding of course content
- Available for MAT 125
- Participation is voluntary and will be discussed in lecture during the first week of classes
ASC 101: PRACTICING ENGAGING PRESENTATIONS (P.E.P.)
- Six week, zero credit public speaking seminar that fulfills the SPK requirement
- Designed to help students hone their public speaking skills in a comfortable and supportive
environment. This class is limited to 10 students.
- Fall 2016 class meets for six Tuesdays from 2:30pm – 3:50pm starting Tuesday, September 27, 2016
